100 Seiyuu Everybody Should Know: 100-91

I was reading the recent Oricon survey of ‘legendary seiyuu’ and it surprised me in that the majority of the list actually looked very good and very correct – I was convinced that Japanese people had taste after all! Well…. except 10th spot I guess.

As I was reading through the list I began thinking that so-and-so should be on here… and I ended up drawing my own list instead… whittling it down to 100 was hard ~_~

Let me say first that this isn’t a list of the ‘best’ or ‘most talented’ voice actors (how would you judge that?), but rather a list of the seiyuu who I feel made an impact on the seiyuu business (or on me) in some way. These are names that will hopefully, still be remembered 30-40 years down the line.

I’m not going to hit you with a post a day, brains can’t absorb that kind of info. Instead I’ll space out the 10 installments over a few weeks (also gives me time to fine-tune a couple more entries). Look forward to finding out if your favourite seiyuu makes it on the list!

100. Aso Miyoko (麻生 美代子)

Why you should know her: Say hello to the oldest seiyuu still in business! At 83 years young, Aso-san regularly appears in the long-running Sazae-san series and has in recent years, guested on shows such as Detective Conan, kure-nai and CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~.
Best known roles: Isono Fune in Sazae-san, Cologne in Ranma 1/2, Pinako Rockbell in Fullmetal Alchemist
What else you should know: A self-confessed heavy smoker, Aso-san enjoyed scuba diving and was still doing so up until the age of 80. She was married to sound director Sakon Yoshihiro, who passed away in March 2008.
My favourite Miyoko role: Pinako!!! Such an endearingly cute character.

99. Tomizawa Michie (富沢 美智恵)

Why you should know her: An accomplished veteran who retired in 2002 (marriage) before the world was ready to see the back of her.
More about Michie: Despite her ‘retirement’, Tomizawa has returned several times to work on special projects including a couple of appearances as Sumire in Sakura Taisen live shows, a role in Nippon-Ichi’s Disgaea in 2004 and again for Black Lagoon in 2006. Still officially attached to Aoni Production.
Best known roles: Hino Rei/Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon, Kanzaki Sumire in Sakura Taisen, Yamazaki Linna in Bubblegum Crisis, C-Ko in Project A-ko movies
My favourite Michie role: Creepy child murderer Roberta in BLACK LAGOON (see Saimoe video).

98. Konishi Katsuyuki (小西 克幸)

Why you should know him: A veteran who only hit it big 10 years into his career with one hot-blooded scream and a point of a finger to the sky.
Signature line: Omae o shinjiru, Ore o shinjiro!!
Best known roles: Mibu Kyoshiro in Samurai Deeper Kyo, Kamina in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Komui Lee in D.Gray-man, Ishida Toraji in Bamboo Blade.
What else you should know: His family runs a boiler shop business.
My favourite Koni-tan role: Toya in Ayashi no Ceres – I remember watching the show on TV and falling in love with Konishi’s mean and moody voice.

97. Matsumoto Rica (松本 梨香)

Why you should know her: She has the best-selling seiyuu-related single in history under her belt. However, most of those 1.13 million sales should be attributed to the fact that the CD was titled ‘Mezase Pokemon Master’.
About her voice…: Some say she’s like a female Hiyama Nobuyuki (ie she screams a lot).
Best known roles: Satoshi [aka Ash Ketchum] in Pokemon, Fusuke in Ninku, Bakura Ryo in Yu-Gi-Oh!
What else you should know: Rica is one of the founding members of anisong collective JAM Project, although she is currently on hiatus from the band to concentrate on her own works.

96. Kobayashi Sanae (小林 沙苗)

Why you should know her: A supremely consistent, versatile and capable seiyuu whose presence at audition calls sends all other rivals cowering in fear.
More about Sanae: Sanae had studied art at college before pursuing a stage acting career in a local theatre troupe back home in Shizuoka. Then-Baobab manager & veteran seiyuu Tatekabe Kazuya saw one of her performances, was duly impressed and personally scouted her & signed Sanae up.
Best known roles: Touya Akira in Hikaru no Go, Lucy/Nyu in Elfen Lied, Allen Walker in D.Gray-man, Madlax in Madlax
My favourite Sanae role: Okuzaki Akira in Mai-HiME – Sanae doesn’t do tsundere often but Akira was such a sweet tsundere reverse-trap. Natsume Reiko in Natsume Yuujinchou is worth a mention too.

95. Konishi Hiroko (小西 寛子)

Why you should know her: She had a glittering future ahead of her but blew it amidst a murky scandal.
More on Hiroko…: A NichiNare graduate and then Artsvision employee, Hiroko burst onto the scene with roles in Ojarumaru, Mahou Shoujo Tai! and Juubei-chan before an ill-advised declaration in 2000 that she intended to ‘become an actress’. It was rumoured that this was seen as an insult to the seiyuu industry and as a result, nobody dared to employ her and she was basically forced into showbiz retirement.
Best known roles: Sawanoguchi Sae in Mahou Shoujo Tai!, Nanohana Jiyu in Jubei-chan, Ojarumaru in Ojarumaru, Takaishi Takeru in Digimon Adventure
What else you should know: She was the original voice of Shiori in the Kanon games and in fact, did continue to provide her voice in the 2002 PS2 port. She was also the original voice of Honda Tohru on the Fruits Basket drama CD which preceded the anime. Hiroko’s only other work after 2000 was Bridget in the Guilty Gear line of games, but of late she has been replaced by Kato Yukiko. Other seiyuu who have inherited Hiroko’s roles include Horie Yui, Nishimura Chinami, Imai Yuka and Orikasa Fumiko.
My favourite Hiroko role: Sae in Mahou Shoujo Tai! – so bright and breezy and cheerful and so Mizunashi Akari.

94. Sawashiro Miyuki (沢城 みゆき)

Why you should know her: She’s already considered an industry veteran at the tender age of 24.
More about Miyuki: Arguably the finest, most well-established voice actor in her age group (the below 30s), with her great versatility enabling her to cover a wide range of roles.
Best known roles: Puchiko in DiGi Charat, Shinku in Rozen Maiden, Aruruu in Utawarerumono, Mint Blancmache in Galaxy Angel
My favourite Miyukichi role: Definitely Aruruu, a character which neatly captured the furry ear/loli/twin-tail moe-loving crowd. Like me.

93. Koyama Mami (小山 茉美)

Why you should know her: She has a dangerously sexy voice! Also often described as a seiyuu with a ‘7-coloured voice’ (think rainbows).
Best known roles: Arale in Dr.Slump, Minky Momo in Mahou no Princess Minky Momo, Lunch in Dragon Ball, Kycilia Zabi in Mobile Suit Gundam
What else you should know: She’s the Japanese dub for Sharon Stone. Used to be married to heavyweight seiyuu Furuya Tohru before their divorce in 1983, although the pair remain on good terms (and their respective sites still link to each other)
My favourite Mami role: Blonde badass Balalaika in BLACK LAGOON.

92. Tachiki Fumihiko (立木 文彦)

Why you should know him: There is no mistaking that low scratchy voice of Tachiki’s, which you can spot even on something random like a Wii Monster Hunter 3 ad. Indeed, he is arguably the king of narration and CM ads & is notably the narrator of pre-fight movies for PRIDE FC in Japan.
Best known roles: Ikari Gendo in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Zaraki Kenpachi in BLEACH, Hasegawa Taizo in Gintama
What else you should know: He was also that dude in Lucky Star who did something like a zillion different minor roles. If you want something really recent – he voiced Senjougahara senior in Bakemonogatari.
My favourite Tachiki role: Kirisaki Yuichi in Yakitate!! Japan ie the very evil Gendo lookalike antagonist.

91. Minagawa Junko (皆川 純子)

Why you should know her: The bishonen expert turned sexy onee-sama queen.
Signature line: Mada mada dane.
All about MinaJun: Went into the seiyuu business as she figured that it couldn’t be any worse than being an office lady, plus she was attracted by the possibility of being able to perform and sing – MinaJun is a pretty excellent singer, taking one of the lead roles in the most recent iteration of Sakura Taisen.
Best known roles: Echizen Ryoma in Prince of Tennis, Yukihiro Ayaka in Negima series, Cornelia li Britannia in Code Geass, Akira E. Ferrari in ARIA
What else you should know: Did you know she was the original voice of Edward Elric on the Fullmetal Alchemist drama CDs? It seems strange when you consider the fact that the other seiyuu Minajun is most often compared to (Paku Romi) later took over the role for the anime version.
My favourite MinaJun role: Akira – forms one half of my favourite pairing in ARIA (with Aika, of course). Portrays the strict and softer sides of the Crimson Rose perfectly.

Check back in a couple of days for the next installment!

  • omo

(in before) Sawashiro at 94? Are you kidding me? She’s just hitting her stride! She’s easily top 20 material if not better.

  • selo

Hey great post, these lists are gonna be an awesome read. As for me, i dont know much about the oldbies, since i just really got into anime in 2004 :( , but its interesting to know of the older stuff.

    Good work ms jimone!

@omo: I don’t think she said they were ordered from “worst” to the best, shes just throwing the names, so :p

“Let me say first that this isn’t a list of the ‘best’ or ‘most talented’ voice actors (how would you judge that?), but rather a list of the seiyuu who I feel made an impact on the seiyuu business (or on me) in some way”

  • Thanks for this. Great stuff. I’m settling in for a college course in seiyuu, especially the older ones I’m not familiar with.

My top Kobayashi Sanae role is Maya in Glass Mask. The acting competitions between her and Yajima Akiko are like a gold standard for me.

Those two and Sawashiro Miyuki are three of my favorite voice actresses.

  • Hmm, I’m not as lacking in seiyuu knowledge as I thought! Although I do owe it to this blog since I’ve become more conscious in paying attention the voices/looking up cast lineups ever since reading it. :)

I’ve been a fan of Kobayashi Sanae and Konishi Katsuyuki, and recently, Minagawa Junko and Sawashiro Miyuki (especially the latter).

Tachiki Fumihiko – you cleared this up for me! For a long time, I couldn’t for the life of me remember the name of the guy who did all those narrations.

I’m looking forward to the next set :)

  • Most memorable role of Tachiki Fumihiko is probably still Zaraki Kenpachi for me, there is little in the way of beating that badass character and how Tachiki made him so memorable in the anime version, and still continues to.

Minagawa Junko I agree with, her recent roles have taken me by surprise compared to the one I was first familiar with, that of Cornelia. After all, one does not expect Miranda (Tytania) and Rosie (Valkyria Chronicles), who are both similar in character and voice, to be the more refined Cornelia.

Other than Kamina I would have thought you would also mention Konichi’s roles in Bleach (and last year in Tytania as Fan Hulic). Konichi did (or if you prefer, is still doing) Asano Keigo and Hisagi Shuuhei, two very different voices. Still, I suppose most would indeed remember him for Kamina.

  • Nya~n

Kamina who? I liked Konishi better as Kyo and Komui. And it’s good to know you’re finally making the old names in seiyudom known once again, j1m0ne. One can’t him/herself a seiyuutaku without knowing these names.

  • Andrew

Excellent work here! Mami Koyama’s resume impresses me, especially on the Japanese language dubbing front. She played Melissa Raccoon from The Raccoons (a childhood favorite of mine; how many other people remember that show?) AND Elaine from Seinfeld? AND she played the evil ojou Ryoko Mendo in my all-time favorite anime, Urusei Yatsura? Wow. I’d kiss her.

Miyoko Aso has a lot to be proud of, but she still has nine years to go before she catches up with America’s longest-serving “seiyuu”, June Foray (voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Witch Hazel, and Cindy Lou Who, among many others).

  • Woah.. this initial list already has a great deal of great seiyuu’s.. wondering how will the rest of the list match up.. ^_^… So happy to hear how versatile Koyama Mami is. Forgot who she was… and what a voice. Thanks for the reminder for the voice behind the characters!

  • Sister Princess

No offense omo, if using J1mone’s standards I’m certain your favorites will be way down to 200 at least.

Even if I just use seiyuus from Gundam franchise, I’m certain I need about 75 spots at least.

  • rainbow

start with 1-9 instead of 100-91!

    im looking forward to this

  • j1m0ne

Thanks for all the comments, good to see that there’s interest in the old-timers who don’t get enough coverage or appreciation these days. I promise I’ll do my best to bring you a list that’s worthy!

And oh omo you joker you. My planned top 20 would probably be insulted if Sawashiro was anywhere near it ;)

  • Blaze Zero

All great seiyuu who I recognize, for the most part.
I really like MinaJun… and SawaMiyu a lot.

  • Vness

I have a thing for top [x number] lists, especially if the subject matter is something I care about. I’m really loving the set-up so far, with the little facts you threw in as well as your opinions. I can’t wait to see the rest of the list!!

  • Sawashiro at 94…favourite role Aruruu? You’re pretty tough. I look forward to seeing the rest. Nice to see Junko as well.

  • Basaka

I need to go dig up old gundam seiyuu profiles, seeing I largely watched them BEFORE I got into seiyuus.

*waits patiently for Touru Furuya and Ikeda Shuuichi XD*

  • skchai1

It’s always nice to hear about seiyuu who were popular in the past, in part because so many of them are still active and capable of doing the same types of voices. Yet they have a hard time getting major roles because because of industry ageism – something that has become more pronounced beginning in the 1990s. In that light, Tanaka Mayumi getting the Luffy role in her mid-40s (she’s now in her mid-50s) is a real anomaly. In fact, trivia question (!), can anyone name other cases where an over-40 female seiyuu got a leading or regular supporting role in a new show (not counting remakes, narration or mom-roles)? Only ones I can think of are Inoue Kikuko (who seems partly immune since she’s only 17 anyway) in Macross F, etc., Shinohara Emi in FMP2 and Marimite (as part of huge casts), and Hisakawa Aya in Phantom. Any others?

I don’t know if I really like the Oricon poll results all that much. If you ask people about “Densetsu no Seiyuu” (as opposed to “Ninki Seiyuu”), it’s not surprising that the older folks would get their recognition. However, it seems that the main criterion for being on the list was being a main character in in a super-popular, usually long-running TV anime. The only exceptions seem to be Yamadera, who was presumably honored for his GITS and Cowboy Bebop work, not for being Cheese in Anpanman (even though Oricon seems to think otherwise). The comments pretty much make it clear – they single out the “big” roles that respondents presumably know about, and ignore the rest. That doesn’t necessarily lead to bad choices, but probably for the wrong reasons.

Anyway, looking forward to the rest of your Top 100!

  • Basaka

    Wellllll~

I remember people said that seiyuus used to be chosen based on their voices first.

    Now it’s looks. Lol.

Although Inoue Kazuhiko had a main role in Natsume Yuujinchou, hmm…

    Ah, Harakiri Tora. Heh.

  • j1m0ne

    @skchai1
Tanaka Atsuko? The lady is 46 but is still regularly getting roles, even in the current season (Nyankoi, Railgun). Of course she’s most well-known as Major Kusanagi Motoko…

Some other seiyuu >40 still getting roles:
-Neya Michiko was one of the leads in Hyakko, major supporting in Eureka 7
-Watanabe Kumiko was 40 when Keroro Gunsou started in 2004
-Kanai Mika was Hojo Satoko in Higurashi
-Kujira is regularly in Naruto, Bleach & One Piece
-Koorogi Satomi was Chi in Chi’s Sweet Home, Ushio in Clannad, Chiffon in Fresh! Precure etc etc
    + more

Of course they’re more the exception rather the trend, you can blame age-ism or family commitments for it but it’s still sad that people like Mitsuishi Kotono don’t get regular TV work anymore, confined instead to the graveyard of radio work or voice-overs.

As for the results of the Oricon poll, presumably they’re just asking random people on the street for their opinions rather than hardcore otaku so you’re obviously going to come up with a bunch of names similar to those on the list as ppl tend to associate popular characters with the seiyuu.

On the other hand you’ve got Yamadera and Toda Keiko, the latter of whom isn’t primarily famous for her voice acting exploits but rather for being a versatile entertainer across various platforms – stage, movies, music, anime.

Though you’ve still got a bit of ‘Ninki’-ness creeping into the list with Hirano Aya’s presence, so God only knows what people were thinking when they gave their answers XD

    @Basaka
Don’t worry, both Ikeda and Furuya will turn up in a bit ;)

  • DoggieDyna

Heeey, I just noticed this. Interesting list and I hope you show more.

I also just noticed…that Oricon list. I gotta say that Toda Keiko, who I happen to love, being tied to Hirano #*$*ing pisses me off. Like, “WHY?!”

  • skchai1

I should have known better than to pose a trivia question here’ I should have know it would awaken your omniscience. Maybe I should have ruled out non-humanoids and otokogata roles as well as narrators and moms. These four roles are still sometimes available for older seiyuu, so without them the question might have been maybe slightly more challenging for you! An extreme case: one of the mega-hernia plushies on Kaempfer is Nomura Michiko, the original Shizuka on Doraemon – she’s 71.

Speaking of moms and narrators (and Doraemon) – Mitsuishi Kotono’s most steady gig nowadays is as (2nd gen) Nobita’s mom. And she was also actually the narrator on Juuden-chan I kid you not. But we haven’t had a chance to hear her trademark fast-talking WTF voices in a while, with the just a taste of it as Misato on the Evangelion rebuilds. Actually, I’m sure she’s on the outskirts of the Oricon densetsu list – the respondents presumably all remember Sailor Moon.

On Toda Keiko – she may be multi-talented, but for the densetsu list, it was probably more important that she’s Anpanman and (2nd gen) Kitaro, main character on TWO hugely popular, long-running franchises. BTW, Nozawa Masako was 1st (and 4th!) generation Kitaro.

Getting back to your list of roles filled by over-40 seiyuu, Ushio was a pretty awesome piece of casting and Sat-chan did a great job – showing that the age difference between seiyuu and their character shouldn’t be a factor in assigning roles.

I watched Hyakko but somehow I forgot to register Neya, maybe because her character looks like she should someone’s mom rather than one of the students.

Sometimes not seeking roles is the seiyuu’s choice – Hayashibara Megumi apparently hasn’t auditioned in many years; she just takes the (mostly legacy) roles that are handed to her. But she can do that because she’s who she is – it seems that most of the big-name seiyuu of the 80s and 90s are still on the audition circuit, at least part time, because they show up in a few minor stock roles each season.

Of course, the reason the future for “densetsu” seiyuu is bleak is down to the “seiyuu-idol” trend, which started in the early 1990s. Even before that, there were “idol-turned-seiyuu”, i.e. idol singers who became seiyuu after their singing careers flattened out, including Hidaka Noriko (#7 on the Oricon densetsu list), who debuted as a 6th (?) generation member of the NHK house idols group Sundays, succeeding Matsuda Seiko, Kurata Mariko, and others, and had a small solo hit in 1982 with Hitotsubu no Namida (a remake of the 1972 Simons song), but didn’t become the seiyuu for Ranma’s Akane, Touch’s Minami, etc. until her idol career was over. There were also “idol-seiyuu”, singing idols who were hand-picked for roles on anime, like Ohta Takako for Creamy Mami in 1984, as well her successors in the Studio Pierrot Magical Girl-Idol series. But it wasn’t until around 1990 that the Arts Vision agency, under the helm of the now-imfamous Matsuda Sakumi, started promoting bona fide (trained) seiyuu as potential idols. Hayashibara and Mituishi were two of the first and biggest seiyuu-idol stars. This was also when it became almost mandatory for young seiyuu to learn to sing or at least pretend to. If anything, the seiyuu-idol trend is even stronger today, fighting with the remnants of the moribund “real idol” business, now reduced to Johnny’s, H!P, Akimoto Yasushi’s creations, and not much else, for the shrinking (and now otaku-dominated) idol mindshare. As long as that’s true, older seiyuu will have to eventually “graduate”, analogous to AKB48 (or Sundays) members, out of the main character roles reserved for seiyuu-idols.

  • j1m0ne

    @skchai1
Haha the comments I made were really off the top of my head (I was at work) so it didn’t quite register at that very moment that Toda = Anpanman or that Kotono = Nobita’s mom.

Certainly I know stuff more on the meta side (who did what roles) rather than the industry as a whole, so you bring some up interesting stuff regards to general idol trends that I’m not overly familiar with. For the current moment, I guess this demand for all-purpose, all-singing seiyuu idol will last as long as fans (like me) keep demanding those idol photobooks & CDs with terrible singing.

It is rather unfortunate that most of today’s newbies haven’t a prayer of surviving as a jobbing support actor, let alone make a decent living without possessing 1) decent looks 2) decent singing – so what hope is there for the oldies who never really used to need to get their faces out in the media? Adding to that is the question of pay – production companies of today may prefer hiring a young, cheap junior seiyuu instead of an established 40-ish seiyuu who’s in a higher pay tier… Kamiya Akira is quite possibly one of the victims of this I believe.

Interestingly, there’s some seiyuu hitting the big 4-0 (Paku Romi, Kawakami Tomoko, Yukino Satsuki) over the next 2-3 years, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to their careers (if anything).

And hey, roles are still roles even if they’re a robotic cat with magic pockets from the future or an alien frog looking to invade planet earth ;)

  • omo

@j1mone: why, because she’s like 2/5 of their age? XD

I think she is top 20 material because she’s where she is at TWENTY-FOUR. None of your top 20 was as “veteran” when they were 24 (granted, circumstances were harder back then, but that is an excuses). I mean, seriously, if people think Sawashiro is an insult to whatever the Oricon top 20 is, then what is Aya Hirano? I mean, I agree that none of my favorites should even be on this list (Mitsuishi Kotono comes to mind).

  • DoggieDyna

Speaking of veteran seiyuu and money, can’t there be negotiations for a vet to cheapen the pay amount needed for their employment?

  • j1m0ne

    @omo
Of course, you’re free to make your own list ;) Personally I don’t see NOW that Sawashiro is that memorable or has had a lot of impact on the seiyuu industry when you look at the overall picture. She only seems important to people because we’re living in the ‘now’, so there’s a danger of overplaying her importance just because she has been in the industry for 10 years by the age of 24. At the same time there’s a need to maintain perspective, not looking at things with rose-tinted glasses and putting every seiyuu that was ever in a Gundam series on the list.

Of course I dispute that none of my supposed top 20 were veterans by their mid-20s – Furuya Toru was already in the classic Kyojin no Hoshi when he was 14 and voicing Amuro Ray by 25. And he’s still doing a lot for the industry 40 years later in terms of widening appeal and interest in seiyuu as a profession. Obviously there’s going to be an age bias if you tried to compare Sawashiro with Furuya, but if you asked me what I best remembered the former for I’d say ‘passing an open audition for a kid’s anime at the age of 14′. It’s not like her being a veteran at 24 is an achievement that’s unique or particularly awe-inspiring, plus it’s unfair to compare the current batch of seiyuu with the 60s group, the latter of whom went into anime work from theatre or child acting backgrounds as actual voice acting training didn’t exist then.

Also, even if I’m not Hirano’s biggest fan it’s not hard to see why people know her & will continue to do so well into the future. A couple of roles in this decade’s (soon to be) classic anime, ever-present in the media – even if Aya’s not to your taste she will be remembered as being a representative of that strange group of entertainers that call themselves ’seiyuu’.

  • omo

Really, this is all about sampling bias.

Furuya Toru is just one person though. Are there really 19 others? :p Oh wait, you put Sawashiro at 94…

The thing I best remember about Sawashiro is that even after getting through an audition at 14, 10 years later she’s still very strong in the circuit and winning dozens of auditions each year.

I don’t dispute what you say but you have to look at it as a whole. I am not particularly a fan of Sawashiro but I recognize that if she is this prolific at 24, it’s very likely that she’ll be epic by 34. I guess if Eruru is your favorite from her, /shrug.

Also I guess I weight accomplishments more than popularity, because that is less biased. Putting Hirano so high up means, basically, if you ever voice a primary role in a very widely recognized show you deserves the recognition? Actually I thought she did a banged up job with Haruhi, and that’s worth something. But I thought Sawashiro did a good job with Teo too…

I dunno, that’s just unfair to the voice actors who are much more prolific, probably more skilled, but isn’t backed by some idol management track.

And let’s look at bias again. Shows like Gundam are from an era where the voice acting industry isn’t as big nor as competitive as it is today. So if you’re in the circuit old enough, the odds of you landing in some immortal anime is very high. It’s a different kind of bias.

  • skchai1

Certainly I know stuff more on the meta side (who did what roles) rather than the industry as a whole

You’re being too modest here . . . I’m sure many English-language anime community use you as as something like the Google of the seiyuu business. Certainly no one does more to keep on top of seiyuu blogs, radio shows, album releases, etc. than you do, and you’re kind enough to share the information with the community.

BTW – I see your Top 100 as being just what you call it – 100 Seiyuu Everyone Should Know, not the “100 Greatest Ranked in Order”. So I’m looking forward to the profiles, which I’m sure will be great.

  • Hikari

yay you put Minagawa Junko on i thought some people would count her as one of those people who are just there…. but would Kaida Yuki fit into your list??

i love kobayashi sanae and konishi katsuyuki by the way *squels like a little fangirl*

  • Basically what omo said regarding Sawashiro. And also the last bit of skchai1’s comment. But I don’t feel like I know that much regarding seiyuu to complain. Hopefully you educate me well though.

    But still… 94?!? ;_;

  • unknownsolution

great post! i am gonna read all of them :)

  • Another amazing role by Minagawa Junko is Mikeru from Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure. Also, the best roles by Kobayashi Sanae are DEFINETLY Rahzel in Hatenkou Yuugi and Patty in Zettai Karen Children.

  • Really dude this does not seem like a ranking to me. Just kind of random sorting to me.

  • To all people, this is just a kind of random sorting, not a ranking order.
Read VOICE Newtype mag if you all want to know the latest seiyuu ranking.
@jimOne also missed out some seiyuu you should really know because they are getting popular at this moment:

    1.Yusa Koji(Kamen Rider Den-O(Urataros),Hyobu Kyousuke(Zettai Karen Children)

2.Goto Yuko(Asahina Mikuru,… I’m sure you all know her other debut)
3.Sanpei Yuko(Sasha(Seikon no Qwaser), Yoshida Chizuru(Kimi ni Todoke),Hajime(Natsu no Arashi))

    4.Kato Emiri(Hiiragi Kagami(Lucky Star), Vampire Knight Guilty)

    5.Ono Daisuke(Koizumi Itsuki(Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, etc)

    6.Toyosaki Aki(Hirasawa Yui(K-On), Tomo(Seikon no Qwaser, etc)

7.Taniyama KISHOW(Sakaki (Zettai Karen Children), etc)

    8. Hikasa Yoko (Mio(K-On), Katsuragi Hana( Seikon no Qwaser), etc)

  • j1m0ne

    ^
Well drrrr I never said it was sorted. Cos it ain’t. And it’s not a popularity ranking either, or a list of the people who will be stars in the future as I already mentioned in the post, but meh.

And thank you very much I’ve read Voice Newtype for as long as it’s existed, and all the mags from the last 10 years. The seiyuu ranking lists change every issue based on whatever’s hot so they’re hardly worth 2 cents anyway…
