Seiyuu Profile #7: Kobayashi Yu

Since she’s already the subject of so many of my ‘Misc’ posts I just thought I’d do the deed and get her profile written. This is probably the easiest one I’ve done so far as my brain is full to the brim with useless Kobayashi trivia anyway, I’m a keen fan of her voice work… amongst other things.

The Next Big Thing?: Ten Young Seiyuu To Look Out For

The seiyuu industry churns out so much new talent each year that it’s hard to keep up. Shake a tree and a new seiyuu falls out. Every new anime season turns up some unfamiliar names and I’m always scratching my head and thinking ‘Who on earth is that?’

When I first started watching anime people like Noto Mamiko, Ueda Kana and Shimizu Ai were still relative unknowns ; and it’s been quite a ride watching them progress from voicing support characters to regularly headlining anime series. Likewise it’s been cool to see some like Nazuka Kaori, Shimizu Kaori, Koshimizu Ami, Hirano Aya & Irino Miyu grow up from awkward-looking teenagers to ‘proper seiyuu’ ^_^

It doesn’t always turn out that way though – there’ve been some seiyuu I thought might go on to bigger things but never really did; Yoshida Sayuri, Asano Ruri, Katou Nanae, Tasaka Hideki & Hoshino Takanori have sort of fallen in between the cracks and haven’t quite had the sort of impact I initially thought they would.

Anyway, here’s a list of 10 seiyuu I think (or blindly hope) that in five years’ time will have achieved success of Noto Mamiko proportions ^_^ The brick wall I faced doing this post was finding half-decent pictures of the seiyuu since most of them haven’t been around for too long. And the list appears to heavily favour the girls… where have all the talented young guys gone? ^^;; Note: I deliberately left out Kitamura Eri & Inoue Marina, cos I don’t want to sound like a broken record talking about them all the time…

Seiyuu Profile #6: Kitamura Eri

A short (and sweet) profile on Kitamura Eri, one of the up-and-coming seiyuu that people should keep an eye on & an ear out for. Like fellow young gun Inoue Marina, 2007’s proving to be a particularly good year for the teenager and she looks set to have a bright future in the industry.

TWIJ…#24

20 June 2007
…..I guess I was wrong about there not likely being a new Nanoha StrikerS opening, since Mizuki Nana’s already announced it on her website. MASSIVE WONDERS it’s called, lyrics by Nana-chan as usual and composition & arrangement by Yabuki Toshiro, who actually co-wrote and produced quite a lot of her earlier material (POWER GATE etc) but seemed to have been dropped in favour of the Elements Garden team (Agematsu Noriyasu, Fujita Junpei & Fujima Hitoshi) for HYBRID UNIVERSE. The song title’s are getting more and more bombastic, I wonder what the next one will be called…. maybe LIGHT FANTASTIC or AWE-INSPIRING MAJESTY or something random like that…. 22nd August’s the release date so mark ye calendars….

Summer Anime Preview

Everyone’s doing summer anime previews! I don’t actually bother with trying to pick out ‘must-watch’ shows cos I know I’ll give absolutely everything a go regardless of how dumb the title sounds (Happy Happy Clover) or even if I know I’ll hate it to bits (Nanatsuiro Drops). Admittedly I hardly ever bother to read up on what the storyline is about since there are only a few things I’m interested in usually…

‘Special’ Seiyuu Profile #5: The Madness of Kaneda Tomoko

Bizarrely, this post began life as a profile on Matsuki Miyu but I lost the plot halfway through ^^; I wasn’t gonna label this a profile cos to be honest; it’s mostly made up of random videos and mostly useless stuff but what the hell. I’m still stuck on two I’ve been working on for the last month so I’ll just get this one up to hold the fort.

Guess The Female Seiyuu? – Follow-Up and Answers

Going along with D’s suggestion, I created a separate post to finish off my little Guess The Female Seiyuu? game. I thought some of them were pretty obvious, like No.5 and No.18… but then again, maybe not ^^;; I didn’t include seiyuu like Satou Rina & Shiraishi Ryoko cos I thought it’d be too obvious…. Negi & Hayate’s voices are still fresh in people’s minds.

What follows is 20 samples featuring each of those seiyuu featured, in the same order – first part of the samples has them voicing a female character, then after the beep you’ll hear them talking in real life – interviews etc. (except for No.4 and No.12 – I just couldn’t find anything decent to use unfortunately). It’s quite a contrast to hear these seiyuu’s real voices and the ones they normally use when doing anime voices – I’d struggle to recognise some of them (except No.3) ^^;
