Seiyuu Asano Masumi, a graduate in Japanese literature from Kokugakuin University, is set to see her first novel published under Kadokawa’s new Tsubasa Bunko imprint. Launching on 3rd March 2009, Tsubasa Bunko is targeted at third-year elementary grade schoolers and first year middle-schoolers (ages 11-13) and will see a mixture of light novels, fantasy tales and remakes of classics released under the imprint.
The first volume(?) of Asano’s novel will be titled Uru wa Sorairo Majo 1 – Hajimete no Maho Cookie (ウルは空色魔女① はじめての魔法クッキー) which roughly translates to Ur the Skyblue Witch 1 – The First Magic Cookie. Masumin mentions that the book exceeds 200 pages in length, and describes it as being full of ‘dramatic’ incidents. Apparently, the cover is going to be illustrated by ’somebody famous who most people know of’, but she is not allowed to reveal who it is yet. Amusingly, Masumin also says that she thinks the process of writing the novel is what caused her to lose 5 kilos in weight this year. Since the novel is aimed at kids, I don’t think any of her trademark lewd/rude comments will make it to print form…
Asano is actually a freelance writer using the hiragana form of her name (あさのますみ), and has written lyrics for former Aice5 bandmate Horie Yui and Jpop singer Atari Kosuke. In addition, one of her short stories claimed the top prize in Shogakukan publication Ohisama’s 13th Fairy Tale competition earlier this year, which brought a prize of ¥500,000.
Maybe Masumin should give up her day job? The biggest role she’s had to date is still Ikkitousen’s Sonsaku Hakufu.
