Intermission

So here I am, sitting in a Tokyo flat catching up with miscellaneous news and stuff I’ve missed over the past week or so. What I’ve learned:

  • Lantis Matsuri, damn. No money, no leave, no time.
  • Kuribayashi Minami is losing her hearing
  • Ochiai Yurika is one of the saviours of the anime world
  • Sonoda Ryoji wrote the lyrics for COSMIC LOVE & DISCOTHEQUE while he was (probably) high
  • I still haven’t opened my copy of Tanaka Rie’s photobook (purchased from Animate, their tokuten is the maid with gun photo) – I’m hoping to secure another copy from Gamers when I go to Akiba tomorrow, but I won’t be too bothered if I don’t. I can live without bunny girl Rie I guess. There’s other seiyuu/people I’d prefer to see in a bunny suit…

Oh, and Sabra. The July issue came with a DVD that has behind-the-scenes footage of Chiaking’s photoshoot from ’bout half a year ago, and featured lots of cleavage, mmmm. I don’t quite know what to do with the rest of the mag though, it’s too lewd for me :3

…back home in three days’ time, full report then. Hokkaido was fun!

    Pause.

I’ve been non-existent for most of the month of May (work, distractions), and I’ll continue being non-existent for the rest of it. I’m boarding a flight to Tokyo in approximately 11 and a half hours’ time, back in June. The highlight of the trip will no doubt be seeing Hokkaido, but there’s also places in Tokyo I haven’t explored yet (like Asakusa, for some reason). Hopefully the weather will be fine, it was mostly raining this time last year.

…and I’ve got my face masks, disinfectants and gloves at the ready! Half my department are paranoid that I’ll infect them when I return – especially when a colleague also just got back from Tokyo and another is due to return from an American vacation pretty soon :3

The art of murdering anime songs.

So I’ve been trying to get anyone who’ll listen to me to go and destroy their eardrums by listening to a bunch of wannabes bludgeon famous anison to death on NHK Osaka’s アニソンのど自慢. It’s pretty damn hilarious, I mean I know I can’t sing for nuts but these guys really do blow me out of the water.

    Favourites
#56: Awsm cover of Saikou no Kataomoi

#65: Even more awsm cover of Shinai

OK let’s be fair, there’s some decent singing in there like #47’s attempt at singing & dancing Gekitei! or #86’s Touch… but the good moments are few and far between. I suggest earplugs while going through all 151 one-minute excerpts.

    ….oh, I love #104 too, totally amazing.

Mysterious new male seiyuu unit DABA

Last month the official website for new 7-member male seiyuu unit DABA was launched and on May 11 their radio show was launched. The nice catch about DABA? Their identities are as yet ‘unknown’, and the only clues offered on the radio were:

  • they’re all the same age
  • they’re all born in the year of the horse (so they’re all either 19, 31 or 43)
  • they’re all seiyuu
  • The radio show is only accessible if you have a Voice Newtype Cafe subscription… but hey, if you caught it before NicoVideo pulled it down you would’ve found out who the 7 were: Tachibana Shinnosuke, Fukuyama Jun, Hino Satoshi, Ono Daisuke, Suganuma Hisayoshi, Majima Junji and Kondo Takayuki. They’re all born in 1978, so they certainly tick all the right boxes.

Put together to rival Nazo no Shin Unit STA☆MEN (another 7-member group consisting of Kishio Daisuke, Suwabe Junichi, Suzumura Kenichi, Takahashi Hiroki, Yasumura Makoto, Toriumi Kosuke & Yoshino Hiroyuki) I guess? Whatever, these bunch of horses probably have the same ikemen:busaiku ratio as STA☆MEN… but maybe a few more people who can actually sing. I love Ono-D & Suganuma (to a certain extent) so we’ll see what comes of it – having a FukuJun around is always entertaining (even if he can’t sing)!

    Fix my teeth….or not?

Basically, every time I’ve been to the dentist in the last 12 years I’ve been implored to get braces because of the sorry state of my teeth, being told that ‘it actually helps give a good impression in job interviews!’, ‘you’ll and the such. Actually I don’t think it makes much difference since my current job doesn’t require me to open my mouth for longer than 15 minutes per month. And I really don’t care at all what they look like, otherwise I’d have gotten it fixed ages ago. I guess it’s an Asian thing to not be concerned by how straight or white my teeth are.

Having said that I do know of the potential trouble I might have somewhere down the line, my jaw is terribly overcrowded with teeth as it is and my solitary wisdom tooth is buried under my gums. I had a grand plan to make all my teeth rotten before I turn 50 by eating a diet of sherbet candy and not brushing at all but I figured I’d probably die of diabetes before it could happen. But I guess for the moment I’m putting the braces plan on the backburner since it’s i) expensive ii) troublesome & annoying.

Teaching Chihara Minori Malay (the Chinese way)

It’s great that Chihara Minori is making an effort to learn some Malay before coming to DaiCon in July, but I think the book she bought is kinda useless.

See: 「こんにちは。私の名前は実里です。」 (Hello my name is Minori) somehow translates to「スラマッ プタン ナマ サヤ ミノリ」—> SARAMA- PUTAN NAMA SAYA MINORI which I assume is actually supposed to be ‘Selamat petang nama saya Minori’ (Good afternoon my name is Minori)….. uhhhh, Konnichiwa got lost in translation!!!

or how「日本から来ました。」 (I’m from Japan) becomes 「サヤ ダリ ジュブン」 —-> SAYA DARI JUBUN…. uh romanization is farked. It’s actually ‘Saya (datang) dari Jepun’.

So after a bit of brainstorming with (mostly) townberry, we figured we could teach Minorin some useful phrases and sentences to describe her life. I’m thinking most people won’t understand a thing here as most of it refers to specific Minorin happenings (especially through her blog). I also apologise profusely for the liberal usage of market Malay/bahasa rojak and the fact that I hail from Sabah, one of the only states that speaks Bahasa Baku – though I must stress I did achieve an A1 in my SPM Bahasa Malaysia.

    A list of married seiyuu

Another one of my silly projects that took way too long to get off the ground. This is a rough list of seiyuu that are generally believed to be, or have themselves acknowledged that they are married. I’ve also included the ones that got divorced. As usual… it’s still a work-in-progress which means it’s very disorganised, I’m sure I’ll figure out a better way to present the information someday… and I’ll probably migrate this post over to the ‘pages’ eventually.

….please don’t expect to find out if Noto Mamiko is married here.
