Attempting to explain why I have almost no motivation to blog about anything at the moment.

1. I didn’t listen to a single anime/seiyuu radio show, didn’t read any seiyuu blog posts, didn’t lurk on 2channel, didn’t surf NicoDouga, did nothing at all really. Hence no monthly news update blog post, no radio shows scribblings, nothing.

2. I spent most of my spare time reading Tim Harford’s The Logic of Life, which rehashes more explanations of dull (to the general public anyway) economics concepts like game theory, scarcity and so on using real world concepts – poker, marriage/divorce, oral sex etc. It’s not really on a different plane from his first book The Undercover Economist, which I actually enjoyed a whole lot more and would heartily recommend to anyone, even if you haven’t the remotest interest in economics. Still, Harford makes much better light reading than Steven E.Landsburg, whose More Sex is Safer Sex is still proving a bit of a struggle for me to get through without nodding off/rolling my eyes.

3. I finally found out that I passed JLPT2. Somehow I got 70% despite completely mucking up writing/vocab as I already knew I did cos I sat there during the exam staring at the kanji words staring back at me, mockingly laughing at my despair at not having I done any revision at all. But I did manage to score 140/200 in the Reading/Grammar part which is a bloody miracle considering I didn’t understand a single sentence in the first passage (I had no idea what a 消費者 was, I confused it with 貧困者 for some bizarre reason), and the fact that the second passage (which I did understand) about a guy mistaking a cat for a penguin in Roppongi had left me giggling like an utter maniac for the rest of the paper. I got 81/100 for Listening which was kinda disappointing, though I definitely know I got all the questions that mentioned numbers completely wrong. So now I’m contemplating whether I should actually attend some sort of class if I intend to work towards JLPT1 – most people are urging me to go sit for it but I currently don’t have any plans to, since there is really no point in getting it on a personal level.

4. The new anime season is starting and I see a mountain of subs coming out already. I’ve basically stopped watching raws cos well… I used to do that to try to improve my Japanese listening skills but I didn’t find anime particularly helpful for JLPT anyway. What did help was a diet of Japanese variety programmes and seiyuu radio shows, at least with the listening part anyway. I’ve only caught K-ON! so far though, and it was…. ok. Hikasa Yoko’s Mio was nice, it was cool to hear her singing more stuff after I bought some of the songs she did with TWO-MIX’s Shiina Nagano (aka ShiinaTactix).

5. I am officially obsessed with Lady GaGa.

7. Actually everything I mentioned above has precious little to do with why I don’t feel like writing anything. I’ve just been way too caught up in my work to do anything remotely useful involving seiyuu and am trying hard to find my groove again. Wish me luck.
