Autumn 2008 Anime Season Guide
Skipped covering the summer season for various reasons, but I’m back with a watered-down guide to the autumn (or fall, depending which side of the globe you live in) anime season. The aim is not to help you decide what to watch, but will instead serve as a quick, to-the-point guide listing miscellaneous information (staff, music etc).
For other more constructive guides from people who actually actively watch/blog anime, refer to: T.H.A.T Anime Blog | Subculture Anime Blog | Tenka Seiha | Hashihime
In alphabetical order this time. No OVAs, Disney shows or crappy flash anime included. Blanks mean no information is currently available & or I made a mistake (gomen). Updates will be made as information becomes available, so hopefully everything will still be accurate 6 months from now. Please point out any mistakes if you see them D;
Note: 1-cour = 3 months/12-14 episodes therefore 2-cour = 6 months/ 24-26 episodes

Staff: Directed by Matsuo Ko (Rozen Maiden, RED GARDEN, kure-nai)
Episode count: 12
Music: Dobashi Akio & Ivan Kral
Opening Theme: JUST TUNE by savage genius
Ending Theme: Nagareboshi by ROUND TABLE feat. Nino
L-R(front):Sawashiro Miyuki,Fukuen Misato,Fujita Saki,Kaji Yuki
Seiyuu: Ono Daisuke also features. Director Matsuo favours pre-scoring (recording voice actors’ lines before any animation has been done), which isn’t something that happens very often & can produce interesting results (refer to kure-nai). Half of the ‘quartet’ have worked with Matsuo before – Sawashiro Miyuki has in fact been in every anime that he’s been the chief director of, whilst Fukuen was in RED GARDEN. The other two had never done puresuko prior to this. Hopefully Fujita can prove there’s more to her than being Hatsune Miku.
Radio Show: Sakurashin-cho Chonai Hoso hosted by Kaji Yuki & Fukuen Misato
Comments: I’m following this mainly because of director Matsuo’s track record – I wonder how he’ll do with a more conventional (for anime) plot & setting than he usually does.

Comments: This has got to be the show with the best description this season. Really.
Useless statistics:
No. of shows covered in this guide: 41
No. of shows with an exclamation mark in the title: 5
No. of sequels, sidestories, prequels, remakes, blah: 13
No. of original shows not based on a manga, game, novels or random gimmick (& not including sequels): 2
No. of shows with a theme song by one of the seiyuu: 10
Stuff I have to say:
-I see Madhouse are adopting J.C.Staff’s ‘I like to stick my fingers into too many puddings’ mentality
-Kemeko DX!, Chaos;HEAd & Yozakura Quartet are my current picks but I’m sure at least one of them will turn out to suck, and I know there’ll be the one or two hidden gems in the rough a la true tears & kure-nai
-In fact I am already looking ahead to the winter season where Marimite & Natsume Yujincho 2 await
-Where’s my iyashikei anime
-My seiyuu face recognition skills are deteriorating
-Once again, the theme songs are offering up a surprising selection of artists & bands I’d never have pegged as doing anime songs (Color Bottle, Enomoto Kurumi,SOIL&PIMP)
-I am starting to hate fluid width layouts, I had a hard time fixing everything so it wouldn’t look too stupid in 1280x**** screen resolutions
-It seems everyone and his monkey are doing season guides/previews these days – I will gracefully retire from the scene after this
There is a separate post focusing on the seiyuu side coming up very soon.

“I will gracefully retire from the scene after this”
Nooo T_T That’s too bad.
I enjoy reading your previews, especially all the juicy seiyu details the other people leave out.
Also do you know whats happened to Tomokazu Seki these days, he only appears in anime about once a year it seems.
Just because everyone and his monkey are doing previews doesn’t mean you should stop. This is one of the two most useful I know. And your cast photos and music info are stellar. These previews are an impossible amount of work, but if both of us stop….
Skip Beat! isn’t just “typical shoujo,” the manga is first-class shoujo, with a great heroine, a good hero, and some twists. I think shoujo gets a bad rap — a bad rap that I think shounen deserves more, lol.
And yes, speaking from Blogger, I can confirm that fluid-width layouts are a pain.
Don’t retire! :O Just do previews for promising stuff (and maybe semi-promising stuff as well since the list might be too short otherwise…). But anyway, thanks for the preview!
Also, the girl in the promo pic for Macademi WAsshoi! looks like she’s got Mickey Mouse ears growing out of her chest or like her boobs are gonna pop off. o_o
I’d bookmark Hashihime’s blog if it wasn’t Aya Hirano-ccentric, not that I have anything against her…
Until now, the only people that I knew about in the Kuroshitsuji cast were Sakamoto and Ono. It’s my #1 anime to watch this fall. And it’s a good thing the Bihada Ichizoku episodes are 7 min. long, because I don’t think I can stand listening to girls talk about cosmetics for a half hour.
Even if the same person who directed that angstfest Vampire Knight is directing Skip Beat!, I’m still watching it. Having Light Yagami, Chiri Kitsu, and Kamina in the same anime is all I need.
And speaking of VK, I’m still watching the 2nd season. Even the tiniest improvement from the last season will make me happy.
This is probably the best seiyuu blog I’ve ever read. If you do retire, don’t forget about any of your faithful readers.
This is the only next-season preview guide I read from start to finish btw. It gets to the point of exactly what I want to know with basically no bad info.
But it’s cool if you give it up. You just have to post more epic stuff in its place…

KitaEri has more works this year
and Garei Zero seems interesting too ^^
i’m looking forward to it <3
KitaEri seems to be nabbing more roles this season. She was listed in 6 of them, 2 were lead roles…
And Minorin is no where to be found. Maybe she’ll just stick to being a singer and finally start releasing acoustic folk albums.
Well, that’s what I’d prefer, I suppose.
I always feel like not doing them guides right after I’ve finished one but I usually regain the enthusiasm a few months down the line… Thanks for the feedback all, I’ll think about it in a few weeks’ time

Not the first time I’m here, but the first time I’m leaving a comment…
Echoing some of the comments above: Noooooooooo, please don’t stop doing previews!!!
I especially enjoy your coverage of the seiyuu information in addition to the various other details. It must have taken a lot of research… Anyway, I’m considering a lot more shows this season thanks to the information here. ^.^
THANKEE…!! Ok, now I know at least some animes to look foward to… Btw, did you get those cast photos from their respective blogs/webpages?
Thank you once again for your gi-normous effort! XDD
