Books, Books, Books, CDs…
It seems every time I travel I always end up coming home with yet another load of books, piling more misery onto the ridiculous amount of rubbish in my room. ‘Twas the same result this trip and my book cupboard could not take anything more which meant… declutter time.
I had to remove all the CDs that were taking up space in the cupboard and put them away in a box… I didn’t realise I’d bought that much crap – those in the picture above are only part of my purchases over the last 7-8 months. Thank god I only like buying CDs and books, which are infinitely easier to store than figures…
I’m actually keen on compiling a list of books I’ve read or would like to read, and was searching for any website that might do the trick – something like a MyAnimeList but for books but I came up empty. Which brings me back to plain ‘ol Excel, and I’m now ploughing through my boxes (and my memory) and recording the books I own or remember reading. Slow process. Have a look at the list if you want to. I’m alarmed at the number of books I have that I haven’t finished reading yet… I wonder if anyone/other bloggers actually read proper books (manga doesn’t count).
Now I’m starting to wish I could build a similar list for my music collection (I do have a neglected Discogs account) but it’d be a drag to type up a thousand CD titles in Excel.
Um yeah, pretty much a totally offtopic post. I’m still out of the loop not having kept up with anything in the seiyuu world for the last four days plus I’ve got a backlog of anime to watch, a house to vacuum, and some Japanese exam thing to cram for…

>> Ouch.
I used to read “proper” books, when I was in secondary. Stuffs like Sidney Sheldon, Agatha Christie, JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling, Dan Brown, Roald Dahl (I see you collect his too).. classics like Little Prince or cheesy Jane Austen stuff or emo Paulo Coelho things.. before anime, game, and fangirlism totally occupied my free time.
I guess I get dumber as I grow older.. >_>
You could try LibraryThing. That’s what I use as my MyAnimeList for books.

>>I read books…you know, “Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems” and “Biological Physics” and stuff like that. *coughs* Yeah, those are textbooks…
Err…I’m not into ‘proper’ books…that’s why my English sucks!! hahahaha XD
That’s a lot of CDs. How much do you spend on average yearly? And I noticed a lot of them are unopened too…
Even though we all know you’ve been spending fruitlessly on CDs since god knows when, I’m still amazed/envious of your ability to stockpile so much.
I read proper books… if fashion/gossip magazines count. *shot’d*
I’m quite fond of the Georgia Rennison series (yeah, it’s teen angst/romance crapola. Sue me.) Any British comedies you could recommend me?
Looks like you really need a bigger bookshelf, but more precisely, a customized bookshelf to maximize the space in the room.
Those books.. Those books.. Are hard to find here. Damn. I heard those books were good.
One day I will have a room full of cds and books covered from bottom of the room to the top of the room on my wall..
Books… what are those O_o
Seriously, I don’t think I’ve touched a book in at least 3-4 years that wasn’t related to the job. Maybe this is why my general grammar is getting worse every year since I only have blogs to rely on for constant reading? D’oh!
@kiseki gurl
I don’t keep an expenditure spreadsheet, but I reckon I purchase on average 5-6 albums/singles per month, which works out to around 60+ CDs per year. Some have shipping costs & others I get somebody to buy them directly so I er… no idea. Maybe a few hundred pounds? (sorry my thinking is still very British).
And I tend not to open those that I’ve already heard unless there’s some DVD extra included inside, just in case I run into financial troubles in the future & need to sell them off :3
@Mei
British comedy – watch Fawlty Towers
British comedies, some good recommendations:
1. Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister
2. Blackadder (my personal favourite)
3. Father Ted (Ok, it’s more Irish than British)
4. ‘Allo ‘allo
I like the British style of satirical sitcom. The only American comedies I watched and enjoyed are Frasier and MASH.
