04.02.10

Today is Tomatsu Haruka’s 20th birthday! At least it is in Japanese time anyway…Which obviously means it’s a good day since she now becomes of legal age and I don’t have to feel so bad ogling her pictures anymore!

The other significance to this date? I’m moving blogs. Naturally most people would think I’m mad to give up on all that Google juice or ego-tripping linkage stuff but I’m not really bothered by that kind of thing to be honest.

I thought I’d throw in a few statistics before I wave adios to atemonai.com. Since I started recording stats in August 2008 I’ve racked up over 522,000 unique visits. Anime Nano has been my biggest referrer followed by hashihime and kurogane (thanks guys, haha). The most searched for keyword is ‘j1m0ne’, then ‘atemonai’, then ’seiyuu blog’ and then… ‘j1mone’ (sic). I guess people really love me *ego burst*. Twice as many Americans visited the site as Japanese people did, then Canadians and Singaporeans. My fellow countrymen only come in fifth. The most read posts are:

1. Spring 2009 Anime Season Guide
2. Autumn 2008 Anime Season Guide
3. Ultimate 60th Kohaku Guide
4. Ito Shizuka is the Ultimate Yuri Pimp
5. 60th Kohaku Review
6. A Visual Study of Seiyuu Boobsize
7. 2ch Reactions to Chihara Minori Coming to Malaysia
8. Seiyuu Guide for Autumn 2008 Anime Season
9. A List of Married Seiyuu
10. Fixing Fat Faces and Ugly Hair

My Kohaku posts, hahahaha. I only wrote them a month ago… the 100 Seiyu List series is actually doing very well at the time of writing with all accumulating over a 1000 unique pageviews each but naturally, the anime posts all win. Rams home the fact that anime is still big business and seiyuu is small fry in comparison.

Anyway, no time for nostalgia. Apologies for the inconvenience caused, I’d be most grateful if people would update their feed reader subscriptions and links to reflect the move. I will be keeping this blog open since there’s a lot of good stuff in the archives worth looking back upon and laughing at.

edit: I HAVE DISABLED ALL COMMENTS ON ALL POSTS, YOU SPAMMERS PISS ME OFF.

Limited Chords Works Vol.1 (and a very Happy Birthday to me)

Hmmm. This started out as a joke but got out of hand & somehow I recorded an entire album’s worth of crappy anisong covers despite the fact that I can neither sing nor play the guitar. Also please don’t point out my guitar is out of tune, the last time I tried to tune it I broke my G string. Also I don’t own a capo. Or a plectrum.

Limited Chords Works Vol.1 will hopefully be the first of no more such projects. Dedicated to onii-chan, rai.5-0 (cluck cluck) and Hirano Aya – may your eardrums and your anison-damashii forever be broken upon hearing these songs!!

…..Happy song identifying! I was actually halfway through writing liner notes for each track but… well, I didn’t write the other half. Also VOLUME ISSUES, SORRY.

A conversation I had on gtalk about the album:

me: 生きてるんだよ!
but if i were to review it
i’d say
NO VARIETY
[insert name]: minnaaaaa
me: TERRIBLE SINGING
[insert name]: minnaaaaaaa
me: OFF KEY
NO RHYTHM
ARRANGEMENTS SUCK
[insert name]: mi no rhythm
me: TIMING IS OFF
shaddup

Aaaaanndddd…. happy 1/4 of a hundredth birthday to me, and happy 29th to Chihara Minori.

etc etc To the few people who knew of its existence here’s みのりんのうた (Minorin no Uta), the song I wrote for Minorin. Tirol, graves and lost remotes yay.

下手な日本語でサーセン。

This was the last demo of the song I did and I doubt I’m ever going to record the rest of the verses about her silly broken lamp or not having money to pay for her meal. MP3 version (not sure why you’d want it but….)

Thank you Google for letting me steal images.

Composer Hirasawa Susumu’s mistaken identity – “I’M NOT HIRASAWA YUI”

Musician Hirasawa Susumu, leader of the techno-pop group P-MODEL and composer of soundtracks for Millenium Actress, Paprika and Paranoia Agent had an amusing fit of rage on Twitter starting yesterday (and is still ongoing). The reason? He’s being mistaken for one Hirasawa Yui, she of K-ON! fame.

The problem stems from the fact that moeblob Yui’s name (平沢 唯) is so similar to his own (平沢 進), bringing him a ton of followers (and maybe bots?) after he casually mentioned Yui on his Twitter. Highlights (+ translations) of yesterday’s log:

Fourth Seiyuu Awards Voting, Lucky Draw Time (Again)!

Since the awards are basically still screwed, I shan’t bother voting seriously this year either. Let fate decide once again, like 12 months ago.

The usage of Twitter hasn’t really caught on in Japan, Ikezawa Haruna has abandoned hers and Okui Masami mentioned on her blog she had no idea how to use the service. Also, there’s no real confirmation that the accounts listed are genuine, though the content of the twitterings/tweets/brain farts checks out OK so far.

I would like to suggest that people like Nakagawa Shoko & Ochiai Yurika get a Twitter, their blogs are often rendered unreadable by the tons of worthless/spam updates.

Anyone know of other accounts, do tell. Er, I’m here again in case anyone really wants to follow me.

    Spring cleaning

I returned home to Malaysia in summer 2007 after spending 5 years studying in the UK. Those 5 years were what I call my ‘hikikomori’ period, where I basically did nothing but stay indoors during my free time and watch anime. I guess I would’ve labeled myself an otaku then…

I suppose you can say I’ve broadened my interests since then…or maybe I just started losing my interest in the medium somewhere along the way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still an anime fan and will willingly invest in series I love (ARIA, Kino) but it’s not an integral part of my life anymore and nowadays I watch at best, 3-4 episodes of anime a week. The focus has (thankfully?) shifted squarely to Japanese music and seiyuu!

How would you draw your house?

I know Kotaku featured this one already, but it needs to be spread around/preserved for the er… benefit of mankind?

So how would you draw your room/flat/house? A bunch of seiyuu had a stab at it and the results are impressive (in more than one way).
