Limited Chords Works Vol.1 (and a very Happy Birthday to me)

Hmmm. This started out as a joke but got out of hand & somehow I recorded an entire album’s worth of crappy anisong covers despite the fact that I can neither sing nor play the guitar. Also please don’t point out my guitar is out of tune, the last time I tried to tune it I broke my G string. Also I don’t own a capo. Or a plectrum.

Limited Chords Works Vol.1 will hopefully be the first of no more such projects. Dedicated to onii-chan, rai.5-0 (cluck cluck) and Hirano Aya – may your eardrums and your anison-damashii forever be broken upon hearing these songs!!

…..Happy song identifying! I was actually halfway through writing liner notes for each track but… well, I didn’t write the other half. Also VOLUME ISSUES, SORRY.

A conversation I had on gtalk about the album:

me: 生きてるんだよ!
but if i were to review it
i’d say
NO VARIETY

shaddup

Aaaaanndddd…. happy 1/4 of a hundredth birthday to me, and happy 29th to Chihara Minori.

etc etc To the few people who knew of its existence here’s みのりんのうた (Minorin no Uta), the song I wrote for Minorin. Tirol, graves and lost remotes yay.

下手な日本語でサーセン。

This was the last demo of the song I did and I doubt I’m ever going to record the rest of the verses about her silly broken lamp or not having money to pay for her meal. MP3 version (not sure why you’d want it but….)

Thank you Google for letting me steal images.

Chihara Minori’s first Funsite & seiyuu fansites in general

First of all, plugging 茅原実里 funsite, the first Chihara Minori English-language fansite run by a couple of personal acquaintances of mine.

It’s a little unfinished at the moment which is not surprising, given that (my source informed me that) the site design and content was created in the space of 8 days. The emphasis is apparently on content and not appearance – you’ve got your usual things like voice-o-graphy (which looks pretty complete to me), profile, discog etc. I am told that the gallery, interview translations and DVD pages, as well as other random (undefined) goodies will come eventually.

The meat of the site is undoubtedly the blog translation section, which if updated on a regular basis will do wonders to eliminate the possibility of Fujioka getting stuck in the middle of Minorin’s stomach, motherfcukers.

Her blog reads like a badly-written soap opera where everything that can possibly go wrong does go wrong. Nobody else in the world is capable of happily going to dinner without checking to see if she has any money in her purse, stumbling upon turtles in pots in backstreet alleys behind restaurants she shouldn’t be at as well as her all famous mishaps like melted kettles, dying fridges and lost remotes. As such it makes for a wildly entertaining read and you can now follow her escapades without having to feed the broken blog through an even more broken Google Translate.

But yes, pay the site a visit. It will make all the little ghost emoticons happy

Teaching Chihara Minori Malay (the Chinese way)

It’s great that Chihara Minori is making an effort to learn some Malay before coming to DaiCon in July, but I think the book she bought is kinda useless.

See: 「こんにちは。私の名前は実里です。」 (Hello my name is Minori) somehow translates to「スラマッ プタン ナマ サヤ ミノリ」—> SARAMA- PUTAN NAMA SAYA MINORI which I assume is actually supposed to be ‘Selamat petang nama saya Minori’ (Good afternoon my name is Minori)….. uhhhh, Konnichiwa got lost in translation!!!

or how「日本から来ました。」 (I’m from Japan) becomes 「サヤ ダリ ジュブン」 —-> SAYA DARI JUBUN…. uh romanization is farked. It’s actually ‘Saya (datang) dari Jepun’.

So after a bit of brainstorming with (mostly) townberry, we figured we could teach Minorin some useful phrases and sentences to describe her life. I’m thinking most people won’t understand a thing here as most of it refers to specific Minorin happenings (especially through her blog). I also apologise profusely for the liberal usage of market Malay/bahasa rojak and the fact that I hail from Sabah, one of the only states that speaks Bahasa Baku – though I must stress I did achieve an A1 in my SPM Bahasa Malaysia.

Collecting 2ch reactions to Chihara Minori coming to Malaysia

Normally I don’t give a shit what 2channel thinks or says, but there were some pretty amusing reactions to Minorin’s scheduled appearance at DaiCon this summer so I’m preserving for future reference.

Special Announcement: Chihara Minori LIVE @ DaiCon 2009

So this is the big news people have been waiting for – the special guest for DaiCon 2009 is the one and only Chihara Minori! Official announcement is now up, head on over to the DaiCon site to watch a special intro video from Minorin.

Anyone who’s a regular reader of this blog will need no introduction to Minorin, one of the lights of my life and that special person I happen to share a birthday with. Those who don’t – she’s the voice of Nagato Yuki in the Suzumiya Haruhi series and Chiaki in the Minami-ke series, which should be just the info you need.

Since her official relaunch on Avex, Chihara has released 5 singles and 2 albums, with another single (Tomorrow’s Chance) on the way in June. In December 2008 she played Taiwan and also appeared as part of the SOS-dan with the rest of the Haruhi girls in Anime Expo in 2007, and this will be her first time setting foot on Malaysian soil. The appearance at DaiCon marks a busy spring/summer period for Minorin, with scheduled live performances at Ga-Rei and Druaga events in May, the single in June, her 2-day open air live SUMMER CAMP in early August and Animelo Summer Live 2009-RE:BRIDGE- later the same month.

OMFGMINORINBRAINLOSSOFBLOOD$#%$^&(!@@. Ok, that’s out of the way.

To be honest – there’s maybe a shortlist of 5 or 6 seiyuu who if they appeared, would actually convince me to fly all the way to Kuala Lumpur to behave like an absolute arsehole – and Minorin’s one of them. I’m a country bumpkin who hates bright city lights and prefers rabbiting around in my own little village after all :3

So do come along for the fantarding ride in July, the two-day Minorin package (11-12 July) involves an Q&A session on the Saturday and a live set on the Sunday. Anyone planning to attend and needs further info, do feel free to email me at the address on my About page, or get in touch with the DaiCon staff.

Massacring an already massacred Chihara Minori song

My attempt at killing off an already hideous self-penned, self-composed song about a colourful frying pan by Chihara Minori:

Go get Adobe Flash Player!

Please excuse:
1.the fact that I recorded this when I had just woken up.
2.the fact that I can’t sing
3.the terrible guitar playing, I haven’t touched my acoustic for like, a year.
4.the fact that I couldn’t remember the lyrics or chords, I was singing off a piece of paper
5.the failed attempts at trying to stifle my laughter
6.the fact that ‘post-production’ was involved but it still turned out shit (download original versh @ http://www.mediafire.com/?umdd3yytzec)

Inspired by K-ON! (though I couldn’t bring myself to sing the K-ON songs…). No video ‘cos I seriously looked like a hobo at the time. This is dedicated to danie~ and townberry, my Minoritards-in-arms. Now where are my erojiji songs?

Oh, and Happy Easter, y’all!

Chihara Minori Voice Newtype No.029

Back. My good ‘ol aniki managed to secure everything on my wishlist, which included last month’s issues of Seigura (which everyone has already seen) and Voice Newtype. VNT had a couple of pages featuring Minorin – no idea if anyone else has scanned them yet but I’ll do it anyway – gives me an opportunity to try out my new shitty, tiny scanner. Oh there was a poster included as well, which despite its flimsy paper quality was better than the one that came with Parade… feel free to steal images, no credits needed etc blabla.

Off to bed now before my eyeballs drop to the floor. It’s incidentally Ito Shizuka’s 28th birthday today (5th December)… wonder what yuri antics there will be (if any)…
