I Only Like ‘X’ Seiyuu Because Of Their Face. So What?

I was somewhat amused to see this reply to my post about the fat face issue:

Quoth Ayuri:

“As long as a seiyuu has a gorgeous voice and excellent acting skills, it doesn’t matter what he/she looks like. I don’t see anyone criticizing screen actors’ voices. If looks matter most to you, don’t be a seiyuu fan”.

Seriously? You mean people wouldn’t care if all seiyuu looked like Kusayanagi Junko?

It bores me when people act all high-and-mighty & condescending because they think they’re so more l33t than us shallow fools who only stare at people’s legs all day long.

1. Why the hell would anyone criticize actors’ voices, they have almost NOTHING to do with the job at hand. No actor’s gonna become famous because they have a gorgeous voice. Image, on the other hand, is important in every single industry – think of meeting clients, PR work etc. You might think that looks also have nothing to do with a seiyuu’s job, but in this age of increased emphasis on reaching out to fans & potential fans by media promotion (magazines, live events, TV interviews etc) it does matter what a seiyuu looks like – particularly the younger ones just starting out who are looking to get a foothold in the industry. You need to stand out in some way; having a great acting voice will only get you so far amongst such fierce competition. Just compare people like Yahagi Sayuri or Hayami Saori with others like Tomatsu Haruka – the difference in popularity is so obvious.

2. Why should seiyuu themselves care about how they look? Because of the opportunities that open up – there is so little to be earned from plain voice acting. The possibility of supplementing meagre wages via albums, ad campaigns, TV shows etc that come around because one ‘looks good’ – what’s wrong with that? It may not be the seiyuu’s own wish, but if fans start coming in because they’re attracted to their face who’s going to complain? People like Chihara Minori, Kitamura Eri & (maybe) Saito Chiwa will have benefited from efforts to ‘improve’ their image visually.

3. Looks don’t matter most to me (personality does), but they’re very important. Do I not qualify to be called a seiyuu fan just because I only like so-and-so’s face? I mean, I think Minorin is gorgeous but has a bloody annoying speaking voice and possesses acting skills like Yoda on helium. Does it make me less of a fan if I-who-only-like-her-looks spent all my spare cash on goodies adorned with Minorin’s face than a person who proclaims her masterful performance as Nagato Yuki to be the best thing since sliced bread, but only downloads her songs off Tokyo Toshokan and loops them on his laptop?

4. I also have a sense of humour, and am bemused that some people can be so protective of their favourite seiyuu or artist etc, thinking that they are beyond criticism in any form or style. I laugh at all my fave idols all the time, what’s the point in getting all heated up when someone says OH NANA BUSAIKU or FUKUYAMA JUN IS SO GAY etc? You don’t own the seiyuu, defending somebody you don’t even know personally is lame.

…what the hell is a ’seiyuu fan’ anyway? It’s like trying to define an ‘anime fan’. Would you, a dedicated anime DVD buying, figure-hunting, tsundere loli lover put yourself in the same class as your 6-year old kid neighbour who runs down the street yelling ‘Bankai!’? In a similar sort of vein, I don’t tend to identify with a lot of other ’seiyuu fans’ because of fundamental ideological differences (lol) – one of the reasons I started blogging (more on that later).

Let’s try to break down the different types of ’seiyuu fans’ that exist:

1. The Seiyuu Voice fan
- ’supports’ and ‘likes’ seiyuu because of their voices
- on the whole, watches a lot of anime
- came to ‘like’ the seiyuu because of that one character they voiced
- likes to evaluate/appraise seiyuu performances in an anime role
- can finish watching a shitty anime just because their favourite seiyuu is in it

2. The Seiyuu Idol fan
- ’supports’ and ‘likes’ seiyuu because of their looks, personality or singing ability
- spends too much money on CDs, DVDs, photobooks & related merchandise
- doesn’t really care about/rarely bothers to watch anime their fave idol is in.. if they watch anime at all
- unable to name their favourite idol’s best voice role (because they tend to suck at voice acting)
- subscribes to & fervently reads their fave idols’ blogs everyday
- is more interested in discussing their fave idols’ clothes, hairstyles & latest happenings than their voice roles

However, this is just oversimplifying things because not many people fit neatly into either category – in fact a lot of people have elements of both, even I do.

How about dividing by gender and preference? What sort of characteristics typifies each group of fans?

1. Guys liking male seiyuu ♂♡♂

- hardly exist, and if they do – it’s called ‘respect’, not love!
- probably watch a lot of classic anime, particularly Gundam/mecha stuff
- are gay for Wakamoto Norio
- are secretly jealous of Sugita Tomokazu
.
2. Girls liking male seiyuu ♀♡♂

- are ‘normal’, but often overzealous in their outpouring of love
- listen to lots of BL CDs, reads Prince of Tennis yaoi dojinshi
- have a Livejournal blog
- like to call their fave seiyuu by mushy nicknames (JunJun, Waccha, Nontan etc etc)
- like to collect media (mag scans, event DVDs) of their faves, create wallpapers, icons, websites etc
- like the Neo Romance series, bishonen stuff etc
- fave female seiyuu tend to be people like Minagawa Junko & Paku Romi (i.e. women who specialise in doing male voices)
.
3. Guys liking female seiyuu ♂♡♀

- form the majority of seiyuu fans, therefore hard to categorize
- Noto kawaii yo, Noto
- fap over Voice Newtype, Seigura, hm3 & Seiyuu Animedia
- should go back to Planet Boobs
.
4. Girls liking female seiyuu ♀♡♀

- weirdos, often overzealous in their outpouring of love
- like Marimite
- fap over Voice Newtype, Seigura, hm3 & Seiyuu Animedia
- secretly wish they were all Ito Shizuka so they could have a license to grope cute young girls
- read j1m0ne’s blog
- should go back to Planet Boobs
- sorry, I’m describing myself
.
Maybe it’s like trying to pigeonhole straight people as saints and gay people as perverts, but I’ve rarely seen anyone whose gender-based interests overlap. In many senses, type 2 and type 4 fans are more similar than you’d think – fangirls will be fangirls, they just tend to channel their passion in different ways. I can’t speak for fanboys much, I don’t know how your minds work ^^

I obviously only attract readers from categories 3 & 4 lmao. And most people only come here to:
1. Read yuri crap, silly gossip & pointless trivia
2. Download seiyuu pictures
3. Fap over Minorin/Nana/Marina etc
4. Bash Hirano Aya
5. Massage my massive ego

Personally…
Before I started blogging I had no idea anyone else like me (female, likes female entertainers) existed. I think in the first year or so, I kept getting mistaken as a guy which I suppose speaks volumes for the demographic of the anime blogger/anime blog reading world :< I pretty much felt like I was a guy blogging yaoi anime exclusively and only attracted the 'Kyaaaa!!'-type fangirls ^^; I didn't feel any real affiliation with the seiyuu community on Livejournal because it was so male-seiyuu oriented. So I was really hoping that I’d get to know more people who were… more like me?

Then suddenly this year all the girls started coming out of the closet (…is that a lame gag of Nagi proportions?). I dunno if you all existed before this or suddenly just decided to stop lurking & start talking but thanks for not making me feel like a total weirdo I BRING OUT THE ERO-OYAJI IN ALL OF US MWAHAHA (applies to both guys & gals).

Oh, and I have absolutely nothing against any type of ’seiyuu fan’. If you consider yourself one, then you are one – no matter if you just like their voice, face, ears, singing ability, feet or some other body part you feel ashamed of naming. Why can’t we just happily co-exist in our little corner of the globe, we’re all ‘weirdos who like people who speak in a language they don’t even understand’ after all ;)

Hai, end of rant.

“…secretly wish they were all Ito Shizuka so they could have a license to grope cute young girls”

I so agree with this one.

But then, if I’m admitting it, I guess it’s no secret anymore, eh?

“I dunno if you all existed before this or suddenly just decided to stop lurking & start talking…”

Umm…yes, I finally decided to stop lurking because I felt bad for stalking your blog all the time without leaving a comment. And I think you need more encouragement from fellow girls-with-hidden-ero-oyaji-within

    BANKAI!! Gerogerogerogero..!

  • Miha

Why the hell would anyone criticize actors’ voices, they have almost NOTHING to do with the job at hand. No actor’s gonna become famous because they have a gorgeous voice.
Err, what? Kusayanagi Junko is mainly an eroge seiyuu, and those guys aren’t supposed to show off to the world in the first place. Quite the opposite, they’re keen on keeping their identities hidden. Yes, there are seiyuu fans that center on the ero side of the business. One of my friends happens to play only games starring his favorite seiyuu, and I bet he’s not alone in this. So to imply that a seiyuu is only worth something if he or she is “famous”, it’s a little off base IMO, especially considering the arbitrary binding nature of the word. To say a seiyuu is famous in a niche line of work is an oxymoron in itself.

  • HIRANO AYAAAAAA SUCKSSSSS and is EVILLL!

Seriously, actors, real actors, not the Japanese fake kind who act in idol shit dramas, have to undergo voice training as well. In fact, many many actors are far better at voice acting than seiyuu. This is quite evident from the ease at which they switch accents and express emotion.

I find people who like singers, musicians for their face really retarded, since you won’t see their faces when you listen to their music. Seiyuu worship based on looks is lame too because I almost never see how they look like, just how they sound like. If I wanted to ogle pretty girls, I’ll just go to sankaku complex.

So yeah, HIRANO AYA IS EVIL AND CAN’T WEAR HER BIKINI RIGHT.

  • Oh gawd I want to play pocky kisu with Asapon now. <3
..do I get something for being totally #4?

I’d consider myself both seiyuu voice/idol fans, I watch 10+ anime per season and adore fat-faced seiyuu with unfitting hairstyles if they have sexy voices. It’s given that good-looking people gain more attention, but ‘voice-only’ seiyuu will get a fair share of the job too. Just way less money because nobody will buy curry beans with their busaiku faces printed in the bag. And that’s one advantage being a seiyuu idol fan, you can happily allocate 2/3 of your living cost for them.

And yeah it IS reassuring that so many ero-oyaji girls exist, after all the years of loneliness lmao.

  • “..I mean, I think Minorin is gorgeous but has a bloody annoying speaking voice and possesses acting skills like Yoda on helium..” <– Firstly..this is really LOL…Yoda on helium…I cannot imagine that hehee
Next I realized I am in big trouble…almost every paragraph in this post hits me with the shout “BULLS EYE!”.
    Let’s see:
I was first attracted to Minorin’s because of her looks (yes I’m a perv thank you).
And I’m a seiyuu voice + idol fan for Hoc-chan because I finished up Da Crapo..err I mean Capo for the sake of her voice…wait..I just fast forwarded to her part and listened to her XD. But I also spent too much money on her CDs, DVDs, photobook …heck I even have a piano score book..which I never really bothered playing…
But I guess I am more of a seiyuu idol fan for both Nana-chan and Minorin. I don’t really care about their voice acting…especially Minorin’s high squeaky roles like the one in Venus Versus Virus. I spent excessively on their CDs, DVDs…and crap…I read Minorin’s blog daily. And I observed the clothes and accessories she wears.
    Then I…
-am a weirdo, often overzealous in my outpouring of love
    -fap over Voice Newtype, Seigura, hm3 & Seiyuu Animedia (..I don’t…fap…err…I just…err..)
-secretly wish they were all Ito Shizuka so they could have a license to grope cute young girls (I didn’t wish I were Ito Shizuka..I wish I can take her place so I can grope them with my identity XD)
    - read j1m0ne’s blog (oh dear)
    - should go back to Planet Boobs (…no ticket la)
    And last but not least,
    1. Read yuri crap, silly gossip & pointless trivia (checked)
    2. Download seiyuu pictures (…shi….checked)
    3. Fap over Minorin/Nana/Marina etc (…che..ked)
    4. Bash Hirano Aya (lol sometimes)
    5. Massage my massive ego (what to do you supply me news I massage you XD)
So basically, I’m doomed and corrupted thanks to j1m0ne. She fueled my perverted spirit with all these visual post regarding seiyuus XD. Now I shall return to Planet Boobs and repent my sins.

  • Okay, I think it’s about time I wrote a comment after lurking around your blog so long. XD (Especially since you added us to your blog roll @__@ -flee-)

I totally second what danie and townberry say, minus the fact that I can’t read seiyuu blogs and I don’t have the means to buy anything legally.

I LOL’d at the Yoda part too. XD Don’t worry j1m0ne, you’re not alone on this one!

  • LOL you have no idea how many times I’ve said, “Man, I wish I was Ito Shizuka.”
Awesome rant by the way (it’s awesome to the point where I hesitate to call it a rant, and instead, want to deem it as THE ULTIMATE TRUTH ABOUT SEIYUU FANS).
Ultimately, I see no reason why anyone has the right to criticize others over who they like and why (this statement is directed to the comment by Ayuri).
ANYWAY, on with the checklist XD. I think (I mean…I KNOW) I fall under category 4.
I don’t think anyone can deny that I’m weird, and that “overzealous” is an understatement of my love. I ADORE Marimite and I’ve been waiting for the 4th season since forever. When supplied with the various magazines, I do spend hours flipping through them (even though its through my computer screen) over and over again. I want to secretly assasinate Ito Shizuka and replace her. I obviously read your blog. Go back to Planet Boobs? I have an official citizenship there, thank you. I’m actually currently situated on Planet Legs, after watching Tomatsu Haruka’s new PV.
Out of curiosity… how many people above ^ are girls? 0_o I thought I was one among a petite population of the female ero-oyaji too, but it seems that there are more than I initially believed. XD

  • Yoda on helium.
    oh, ^^

Personally, I’m not a very strong seiyuu fan, so basically that’s why I started reading, to stay slightly informed. Albeit you have your tastes and distastes, but it’s good to have a perspective that isn’t bland. Looks sort of dun matter for voice-acting, and I tend to respect jobs-well-done when I notice them. As for growing fond, I don’t have a problem admitting I enjoyed a male or female’s portrayal in one character instance, but it’s likely not going to carry over and push me to devout myself to series featuring the seiyuu, devouring the seiyuu’s idol-life, etc.

but I like what you do here. ^^ ~ciao

ps. On some level seiyuu are similar to authors.

  • LOL for the “planet boobs” hahaha…I sooo want to live there lol

Guess, I’m “The Seiyuu Voice fan” since I’ve been biasedly finding for Marina’s anime no matter good or bad…hahaha (My friend kept calling me bias, since everything on his mind is YUI haha…)

-1. Read yuri crap, silly gossip & pointless trivia (yeah, for amusement)
    2. Download seiyuu pictures (YAY!!)
    3. Fap over Minorin/Nana/Marina etc (aha? Fap?)
    4. Bash Hirano Aya (err…namidax3 I’ll bash that song)
    5. Massage my massive ego (I’ll massage you my lord… …)

I agree with the ero-oyaji part lol

  • omo

    ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH!

There are girls who stand against the stereotype about yaoi, and it’s good to see these folks take a stand.

    4. Bash Hirano Aya

I think this is all I do. I keep my adoration private XD

  • I find myself a cross of category one and category three. This is a truly interesting post, one that got a bunch of us thinking. Kudos to you, j1m0ne.

  • kiseki gurl

Hmm…I’m probably considered a Seiyuu Idol Fan but that only applies to my love for Nana Mizuki. Does it still count o.O? And I don’t like yaoi or yuri…so am I an alien?

And I definitely come to this blog for #1 and #3.

  • Erin

I think that, based on your classifications, I’m a seiyuu voice fan who’s picked up a few habits of being an idol fan. And I still mix category two and four; female seiyuu voices just sound more varied to me than the male ones do, and I can pick them out easier, so I guess I tend towards four. Can’t be a fan of people if you can’t tell one from the other…

“Just compare people like Yahagi Sayuri or Hayami Saori with others like Tomatsu Haruka – the difference in popularity is so obvious.”

Ah, you just had to put the shot about Hayamin in there, didn’t you? It’s not bad enough that she’s in nothing this season… Now there is an example of a truly gorgeous voice.

  • Andrew

It’s a combination of both for me. If a seiyuu looks nice and has a nice voice, then they’re on my list.

This is an interesting conversation topic, since I’ve often wondered if I like the seiyuus I like for their voice (when all is said and done, in the end I think that’s what’s most important), or if I’m mostly attracted to their looks and I’m just telling myself that. And then there are sentimental favorites and ones you think have a much better range and acting ability. I’m currently crazy about Kaori “Tsukasa” Fukuhara because I fell in love with Tsukasa during the cellphone sequence (she’s pretty decent-looking too), but she hasn’t been in much stuff outside Lucky Star, so I can’t tell if she has much variety or difference in range. I still just have a soft spot for her in my heart though.

Technically, in terms of ability, I’m impressed by Kikuko Inoue. Her voice is usually rather similar, but somehow she was able to make herself convincing as the villain a Macross Frontier, and a pretty badass one at that. Hopefully she might get more evil roles in the future. I also like Yuki “Osaka” Matsuoka, after seeing a YouTube fan video highlighting her roles. A lot of them are a pretty far cry from the drawling, lazy Osaka.

So that’s me; there are some seiyuus who technically impress me and I think are better seiyuus for that reason, and some I just…wuv. :) I guess I’m more of a voice fan than an idol fan; I don’t know if I’ll pick up any seiyuu CD’s, for instance. BTW, I think Minorin’s a much better singer than a seiyuu.

Wonder what Hashihime will think of this post. ;)

  • veester

    >_> i’m a weird combination of the Voice fan and the Female liking Female seiyuu >_>

essentially I only like seiyuus with range, and if they’re cute, it’s a plus :P

Though I’m pretty much the only seiyuu fan in my area that i know of… :S

It’d be cool if there was a “Seiyuu Fan Locater” project XDDD

  • Neo Horizon

Category 4 describes me PERFECTLY. Until I came across your blog, I didn’t know other people like me existed either, so thanks for unleashing my inner Ito Shizuka. XD

Honestly though, your blog is <3. Never keep blogging!

  • j1m0ne

OMG I can’t believe a mindless rant I wrote in 10 minutes flat is provoking this much discussion… I’d love to write a better reply but I gotta dash off to church now (to cleanse my soul of all filthy yuri thoughts for this week lol).

  • LOL @ j1m0ne’s comment!
I gotta do the same thing tomorrow morning XD XD XD I should really ask God to turn a blind eye to my yuri yuri thoughts XD

  • Andrew

I forgot to add that, esp. in the case of Tsukasa, a certain character will endear me to the seiyuu. So yeah, that’s why my response was so long; we can all kinda relate to your summary.

  • Mei

All your confessions are embedded on the intarwebs; even God can’t save you now. :P

I was attracted to Minorin’s singing voice at first, and I still am. But like most of everyone else, I never really cared about her seiyuu work. I totally am jealous of her hair, though.

    It’s funny, I don’t really care about male seiyuu (voice, face, etc.) but when girls voice guys or voice girls with deep voices, I melt. >___>;

    Regardless, nice post.

  • olympus

Even though they are voice actors/actresses if it wasn’t for their good looks they probably wouldn’t be this popular.

really how can one say that Minori Chihara’s perf on Nagato was a masterpiece when she hardly spoke at all lol.

  • @Olympus: Lol on the “she hardly spoke at all” part XD. But then again, her quite low pitch voice that probably consist only 5 words per episode is enough to make me nosebleed. XD.

And I agree with Mei, even God can’t save j1m0ne’s perverted soul already XD. As for mine, it’s already rotting deep in hell XD. But I don’t mind…for the sake of Hoc-chan, Nana-chan and Minorin…in a typical Malaysian style, I would say “wanna rot..rot lah..”

  • j1m0ne

It’s interesting to see all the categories ppl are putting themselves into. The problem is that like Andrew, I sometimes wonder why I like the seiyuu I like.

Example: I’m a huge fan of seiyuu like Kobayashi Sanae & Toyoguchi Megumi, both because I fell in love with that one particular role (Toya Akira for Sanae, Sei-sama for Megu). Looks obviously don’t play any part in the equation here, I love them largely for their voices.

OTOH, the idol types I follow (Nana, Minorin etc)… there’s where the seiyuu idol fan in me pops out. I think there’s only 2 Nana roles of the top of my head I like (Kirihara in DtB, Shinobu in Shinobuden), and Minorin… the less said the better.

I actually like male seiyuu a lot myself, but I find it hard to identify with most of the female fandom (category 2) because I do not at all like BL/bishonen/romance/cool & spicy/whatever stuff they tend to follow. I tend to ‘respect’ the likes of Nakata Jouji, Yoshino Hiroyuki, the two Sekis, Kawashima Tokuyoshi etc more than ‘love’ and ‘fawn’ over them. I only ever get to hear male seiyuu in shonen type shows these days ^^ & sometimes not even at all, since Saiga, Paku-san & Minagawa steal many of the male roles away. But yeah, I find it hard to have a decent discussion of male seiyuu that doesn’t veer off into BL/bishonen land so er.. I just shut up & go watch Marimite for the 67325th time.

Fact: I do not know a single seiyuu fan (where I live) IRL. Everybody here watches only Naruto & Bleach anyway. Though I think I’ve harassed my brother with all this seiyuu nuttiness that he is able to recognise Kugimiya Rie’s voice easily now ;)

  • Vness

I prefer male seiyuu over female (to this day, I still don’t know why) and I love your blog. I only really got into seiyuu, so this blog is helping me discover new seiyuu, both male and female.

I don’t like Aya Hirano, but I don’t go around bashing her. I like to keep my negative thoughts about certain seiyuu off the Internet.

I guess you can say I’m more of a Seiyuu Voice fan. Before people like the likes of Masakazu Morita and Daisuke Ono came along, male seiyuu supposedly had this reputation of being much older and less attractive than the characters they play. I fall in love with voices much more easily than faces.

You can also say that I’m a strange bird when it comes to the “Girls who like male seiyuu” section. When it comes to that secion, there are some exceptions to those facts and observations.
    - are ‘normal’, but often overzealous in their outpouring of love (I’m quiet, but I guess you can say that)
    - listen to lots of BL CDs, reads Prince of Tennis yaoi dojinshi (I neither like nor hate BL/yaoi, but PoT…forget about it!)
    - have a Livejournal blog (Planned to make one, but didn’t…)
    - like to call their fave seiyuu by mushy nicknames (JunJun, Waccha, Nontan etc etc) (I don’t do that as much as I do now. It usually depends on my mood.)
    - like to collect media (mag scans, event DVDs) of their faves, create wallpapers, icons, websites etc (I have one scan and a bunch of icons. That’s it)
    - like the Neo Romance series, bishonen stuff etc (Like bishounen; never played Neo Romance games)
    - fave female seiyuu tend to be people like Minagawa Junko & Paku Romi (Romi Paku and Mitsuki Saiga are two of my favorite seiyuu. I think they’re pretty talented).

Oh, and you should tell the Sasuke and Naruto fangirls about #4 and claiming those character as their own :) .

This is my favorite rant by you yet. Sorry if the comment is too long ^^;.

  • Dav

“Fact: I do not know a single seiyuu fan (where I live) IRL.”

Yeah, we’ve never met IRL in KK, but count me in! Another seiyuu fan from KK here! :D

Although at the moment, I’m still stuck overseas doing a stooopid research project. :s

But I suppose being away from home has its benefits i.e. no parents monitoring the amount of seiyuu junk like CDs, mags misc. that I buy mwahaha. Oh geez, I need to learn financial self-control; not a good idea to waste my own wages at the moment. I’d probably place myself in the “seiyuu voice fan” category (I tend to become a fan of so-and-so because of their voice and their acting caliber, and also because of their personality IRL e.g. Itou Shizuka, Arai Satomi etc.) and of course, the “girls liking female seiyuu” group. And for the latter group, I’m very grateful to you, j1m0ne, for showing us that it’s fabulous to be erojiijii’s disguised as women. Keep it up! d( ̄▽ ̄)

  • Lol, it is pretty shallow. Personally, I lean more towards a seiyuu having good voice and acting skills, but I do not deny that it’s very much recommended to have a good image too, considering the growth of the industry nowadays. Just as much as I respect and love Noto Mamiko, Ayako Kawasumi, Yui Horie, Inoue Kikuko and etc, I am excited and enthusiatic about the new batch of idol seiyuus like Minorin, Nana Mizuki and (to a certain extent) Aya Hirano.

I do realize some of them are a bit focused on the idol aspect, and I can understand the feelings of the “voice > looks” camp, since some of them haven’t really gotten a foothold on the industry yet. Personally though, leveraging looks to appeal to fans isn’t my favourite cup of tea, but it’s not like I hate that particular blend either.

Interestingly enough, I like both male and female seiyuus, although, yes, it’s really more “respect” than “love” for the guys. Sugita Tomokazu has that really awesome voice that makes me wish he was my best friend, while if Norio Wakamoto was my lecturer, I’d probably be able to pay more attention in class, XD.

  • BlazeZero

Haha, I don’t know why, but I find this post hilarious. probably because of over-simplification but, meh, whatever. Also, I read your blog mainly because I usually find it has some nice tid bits of information that I tend to not know of.
Also, I am a Hirano fan, but I don’t care if you bash on her since it’s your opinion and getting overly protective of her is just dumb. Especially on the internets.

  • “are gay for Wakamoto Norio”

I see nothing wrong with this. Seriously. :P

But I mostly fall into the “#3 seiyuu voice fan” category. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I guess if you worry so much about comparing your fandom to others, than I can see why it’s serious business to some people. But I don’t need that. :3

All my anime-viewing, gaming friends pay little or no attention to the voice cast. I think I had to a best friend of mine (who happens watch anime regularly enough), several times, that so-and-so characters had the same VA.

I like, and respect a lot, both male & female seiyuu. And sometimes out of boredom/curiosity instead of obsession, tend to browse their bios for useless trivia, hours on end.
