In Search of the Best of the Worst…
It seems it’s the time of the year for that Saimoe tourney-thingy again but thankfully I’ve not had my Google Reader clogged up with all those ’saimooey thingamajigs’ (yet). I would’ve thought that by now most people will have tired of the whole thing… but apparently not.
Actually, I am vaguely interested in the results of the contest, just to see who’s been causing otaku e-penor to wag this year and to laugh at the lengths some people will go to get their favourites to ‘win’.
Moe is of course, in the eye of the beholder. Most characters people consider 萌え are more ほえぇぇ (hoe~~) or 怖え～～ (scary) to me anyway.
Anyway, the possiblity of finding common ground in the ‘best’ is low; after all, people will always gravitate towards something they feel passionately about. Same goes for the ‘worst’; I’m pretty sure somebody like Suzaku (from Code Geass) would easily sweep a vote for ‘Most Hated Character’ if one was held now.
The key is trying to think of a subject or topic where inherent bias doesn’t exist from the offset. It would probably have to exclude the word ‘favourite’ - in fact, the vote might be more balanced if if focused on less obvious things like ‘worst example of an animated vegetable’ or ‘most poorly designed & most gramatically inept blog’ (although there would be less interest, of course).
So keeping some of those things in mind, I propose something vaguely titled:
Saiaku ___ FaceOff (最悪___フェースオフ)
Tagline: Celebrating the very worst.
Blanks can be filled in as one wishes… and no, no real reason to it. I just like to poke fun at anything and everything.

I picked two songs that share the characteristic of deliberately ‘bad’ singing. All I’m asking you to do is to pick whichever song features more intolerable singing.
#1:Tanaka Rie - Kibina Koko Koka (from KimiKiss)
#2:Kobayashi Yu - Go Go Go Beauty! (from Sayonara Zetsubo-sensei)
Whoever wins the vote will clearly have succeeded in achieving the aim of the song, which was to sound as horrible as possible. Either Tanaka or Kobayashi will claim a double victory - the ‘Best’ at sounding bad, and the ‘Worst at sounding good. Both efforts sounded awfully reminiscent of the ’singing’ that emanates from my mouth, and I’m tempted to record my own renditions and put them to the vote.
Loading …So yes I’m bored. Help relieve the tedium on this dull Sunday and vote for the worst! (And help me test my newly-installed polls plugin). Maybe I should run more of these in the future if anyone could come up with some useful topic suggestions…

actually.. im too used to hearing yuu-tan sang badly which is her normal tone too. lol. kinda immune to it now.
so, i voted for rierie. a good singer and a good ‘bad’ singer.

I’m going to have to vote for Tanaka Rie only because Koboyashi’s song “Go Go Beauty” was so jumpy and hyper that I actually liked listening to it despite her “awesome” singing.

LOL… Tanaka Rie wins this one… totally. It takes skill for a normally-decent singer to be… THAT off-tune. Kobayashi Yu’s song was actually kinda tolerable, and I didn’t think it was nearly as off-tune as Tanaka Rie’s song XD

Rierie pwned. o_O; totally awesome. I have to loop Garnet to forget that voice now.
But those songs were intentionally bad (at least Rie’s), so can I vote for this instead? The trauma!
Anyway I’m fine with Saimoe, but I hate the participants, especially those who vote 100x in a day. What’s the freakin’ point of having the tournament then?

Considering this is probably the ‘best’ of anything Kobayashi Yu has been responsible for that you’ve posted so far to make our ears bleed, Rie ‘wins’ this one

I always liked Go Go Go Beauty and Buta no Gohan, because they were bad in an awesome way, but Rie’s is even better. It was hard to decide whether I should laugh or loose faith in humanity. (I laughed, btw.)

Sadly Kobayashi had to tone done her performances of both Go Go Go Beauty & Buta no Gohan because she was being ‘too energetic’… I’d have loved to have heard those versions. She can actually sing quite well anyhow but her image has already been tarred lol. I would vote for Rie cos there were lots of subtle off-key bits & deliberate running out of breath that made it oh so cool…I mean bad. And that 最低 up there is a typo - I’m blind.

I’m totally voting for Tanaka Rie on this one. Her Kibina Koka anthem version is one of the worst pieces of singing ever to have the pleasure of entering my ears, therefore it qualifies the most to win this poll.
Kobayashi Yu is, well, Kobayashi Yu.
