Introducing Ohgame Asuka
Every anime season always brings up some unknown names, and for this winter it’s Ohgame Asuka (大亀 あすか) in the spotlight. The age-as-yet-unknown Hiroshima-born lass will be making her debut in the upcoming Kokaku no Regios (Chrome Shelled Regios) as Meishen, and has already garnered a bit of attention despite nobody having even heard her voice yet.
Why people are interested in Ohgame:
1) Her profile picture (the one up top) seems to show that she has significantly large…assets (like duh, as if you can tell when there’s clothes in the way). 2channel unsurprisingly has a Seiyuu Oppai Ranking and she ranks in the S- (which is between S and A) category… let’s just say Koyama Kimiko is considered S rank and Mizuki Nana & Kugimiya Rie are amongst those in the F- rank…
2) Regios-related websites seem to be promoting her (and her character) a lot, with a special Come on Meishen! campaign. There have been a bunch of interviews across various sites, and there was supposed to be a live event as well but that got cancelled at the last minute.
3) She’s attached to Sigma Seven, home to the likes of Wakamoto Norio, Mizuki Nana, Yoshino Hiroyuki, Yao Kazuki, Nakamura Yuichi and Inoue Marina. She actually won the agency’s second nationwide public seiyuu audition – the first winner in 2005 was a certain Takamoto Megumi, who’s most famous for having taken over the role of Chao Rinshen in the Negima series.
4) She’s listed as training under the performing arts arm of Human Academy College, where the likes of Kiuchi Hidenobu, Tsuda Kenjiro and Ogata Kenichi are lecturers and Paku Romi, Tanaka Rie & Saiga Mitsuki have guest lectured.
5) She’s quite cute with twintails, supposedly. That picture just reminds me of Omigawa Chiaki…
6) She’s only 142cm (approx. 4 feet 8 inches) tall, and in the recording studio they had to prepare a mic at a lower height especially for her. Amusingly, she said in an interview that people thought she’d be big/tall judging by her name (大亀 literally means large turtle).
7) Maybe people feel sorry for her? She says she likes to go shopping but doesn’t have much money so she has to resort to bargain-hunting at flea markets.
Gee, I hope she’s gonna be something special with the amount of publicity she’s been getting. Definitely looks like the moe-voice type – I’ll be mortified if she turns out sounding like Saiga Mitsuki or Paku Romi, heh. Anyway, ganbare Ohgame-san~~

…..shorter than KaneTomo. Now that’s a new record! LOL I want to see her standing next to Amisuke. I hope she has better voice than Omigawa (did she improve? I stopped watching Soul Eater since long time ago).

She’s cute, I’ll give her that, but how’s her acting? Now I’m interested. Maybe I’ll watch an episode of Kokaku and see if this newcomer is really worth the hype.

Omigawa improved. A lot. By the end of the first quarter of the series, her voice acting is a little more pleasant to listen to. You can tell that she’s learned a thing or two from her experience in the recording booth.
Cute smile, though that only does so much for a seiyuu.

does anyone else think she’s leaning back? as in, leaning back to make them oppai look bigger? XD certainly seems that way to me…
She’s cute. But as for height, she might still be growing, since she hasn’t given her age. Meanwhile Tomoko Kaneda is in her 30s and still a loli.
Ohgame Asuka does look cute. I hope she has the voice acting skills to match though.
It would be sad if she ended up as a pretty seiyuu without enough roles.
She looks young. I guess…. 18? 19?
Still her credentials look a little thin. But with the Seiyuu industry emphasising more and more on the look factor (I still remember thin Tamura Yukari looking quite ‘off’ with her old dorky look), she looks well dug in to be amongst the next big things.
But I have my doubts….. I’m a sucker for older, more experienced Seiyuus. =P
