Kyoran Kazoku Nikki 01 + Radio #2

Kyoran Kazoku Nikki has finally hit screens and I’m glad to say that it’s lived up to my expectations, which means that it’s every bit as crazy as I’d hoped it would be.
The opening sequence, which was used as part of the promo, already packs tons of insanity into it. I’d already had both the OP and ED songs drilled into my head, plus I’m a bit of a MOSAIC.WAV fangirl so I did actually enjoy both of them. They’d probably give most normal people migraines though, so if you think UNDER17 and Momoi Halko are like the devil reincarnated it’s best to turn the volume of the TV down beforehand.
The seiyuu cast was as good as they were on the drama CD, or maybe even better now that we’ve got the images to match to the voices. Fujimura Ayumi’s Kyoka is constantly yakking away and it tires me out if not her too, at this rate she’ll be getting laryngitis soon. Hanazawa Kana’s Yuka was really cute too ^^
For your information, Kyoran Kazoku Nikki is confirmed to be a 2-cour show – 10 episodes have already been recorded and there is still more than half of it to go, according to Fujimura.

(My beloved) Tomatsu Haruka wasn’t in the first episode, her character Chika (see above), who happens to be the older sister of cute, fluffy Yuka is the only one apart from Daddy-o without any superpowers or abnormalities. Apart from her ability to annoy GayGinka to the ends of the planet.
Highlights of episode 1:

Cooking tip #1: If you can’t find a proper chopping knife, grab the nearest chainsaw.

Even the damn fish was talking. Oh, my eyes are spinning…

A cameo from Goto Yuko’s beautiful terrorist/Shinigami No.2 Hiratsuka Raicho, who was Ginka’s first love and the cause of his gender-identity disorder.

Omigod, Yuka is cute.

Discovering Gekka. Wobble, wobble, electrocute.

Kyoka telling Hyoka to lick her shoes. Someone hand her the Mother of the Year award now!

Hyoka the human weapon can be pretty cute too!

Ginka is so gar for Oto-san.
I’m probably not gonna cover the anime every week since there’s a few others (Omni etc) doing so and besides, nobody comes to this blog for my non-existant anime writeups, right? Will keep up with the radio show though, it’s my main interest after all. Coverage of first radio episode was here.
Susume! Kyoran Denpa Nikki #2
Moving onto this week’s radio shows then. Susume! Kyoran Denpa Nikki was more fun this week as Fujimura Ayumi and Sato Rina are settling in their presentation roles comfortably now. There was a lot of spontaneity and general chaos (like the staff members’ mobile phones ringing halfway through the show) going on throughout the 1-hour show, following the Kyoran spirit no doubt!

Fujimura also broke out in her Kyoka voice regularly, and also adopted her persona at times. Like when she told one of the staff to shut up and move on to the next letter after he stumbled over the words in an e-mail. Incidentally, that hamburger above was what the staff got the two seiyuu for their dinner before the show starts (it airs live at 10pm).
More people are listening to the show this week, they seemed to get a lot more mail this time around. They decided to give themselves nicknames based on their characters. Fujimura is Neko-san (cat) and Sato is Kurage-san (jellyfish) -_- How original! I think that’s what Chika calls them in the series too.
Another set of silly games this week, but this time Queen Kyoka dragged in some staff members to make up the numbers. Being in Kyoka-land, they were not called kokumin (国民 – citizens) but gumin (愚民 – ignorant people) instead.
First game was called Pittanko Five, a general knowledge quiz where the answers would consist of five letter words, and each of the five gumin would have to write their part of the answer and put it together. Example: What do you use to write on a blackboard? And the five people would have to collaborate and hopefully come up with C-H-A-L-K. Got it?
Questions:
1.Fill in the blanks: 東北楽天ゴールデンイ_____ (Tohoku Rakuten Golden _____)
Answer: イーグルス (Eagles).
Gumin’s answer: イーグンス (Eaguns). The fourth gumin thought it was Dragons and not Eagles ^^; They’re a baseball team incidentally.
2.What is 醤油 (shoyu) in English? Write it in katakana.
Answer: ソイソース (Soy sauce)
Gumin’s answer: ソイソタス (Soisotasu). The guy who put タ instead of ー thought that shoyu is oyster sauce -_-
3.What is the capital of Australia?
Answer: キャンベラ (Canberra).
Gumin’s answer – メルンーム (Merun-mu). LMAO. The first two thought it was Melbourne, the third person got it correct, the fourth thought it was Sydney (シドニー) and doesn’t appear to be able to count either, and for some reason Fujimura Ayumi put Mu (ム). -_- Amsterdam isn’t in Australia my dear.

The second game was a noodle surpling game called Kyoran Sudon Churuchuru where they had to consume a whole udon strand in one slurp. They’d go in order, Sato Rina up first and then if she was successful, she’d pass on to the second person and then so on. If Gumin #2 failed to slurp his noodle, they’d have to start all over from the first person again. Poor Sato Rina :/ Some of them slurped too fast and ended up choking. And poor Kyoka-sama. She was last in line, but because her stupid subjects couldn’t slurp fast and well enough, she didn’t get to eat any udon. Too bad we don’t get to see them playing this game, cos the slurping sounds they made were absolutely vile.

Third game was another insane one called Kyoran! Cola de Yamanote-sen Game. Each of the gumin would have to call out the names of the stations on the Yamanote Line, starting from Kanda and moving clockwise, ending up in Akihabara. Now, because they had to drink Coke before they could recite the station names (and you know what Coke does) there were a lot of…disgusting consequences. Burping on live radio is hideous – all these uncouth male staff members! There are two girls there FFS, behave yourselves! After a few false starts, they got on their way but just as they were about to reach Akihabara, Gumin #3 burped and the game ended. Poor Kyoka-sama didn’t get to go to Akiba after all T_T
The final game was Kyoran! Kyoka-sama Free Throw. The staff were given a bunch of plushies of characters from popular anime, and they had to throw them into a box from some distance. They weren’t allowed to say what anime they were from, but one was a Kyoka-sama doll. And yay!!! HOME RUN!!! The last game, and all 5 of them managed to throw their dolls into the box.
The staff are really good (or maybe bad) at picking songs to fit in with the theme of the anime and radio show, despite it being blatant Lantis promotion. This week was eufonius’ Sonomama no Boku de (which was an insert song in true tears), which could conceivably be a Kyoka song directed at Oka.
I really enjoyed this week’s dose of Kyoran – both the anime and radio were really enjoyable and I’m definitely looking forward to more. Signing off for this week, Fujimura Ayumi and Sato Rina’s sketches of their characters:

I’d like you to cover this, actually, since I think you’d be up to writing about it in detail. You did get all the jokes, right? It’s too bad this isn’t really fansubber friendly, since I’m interested in watching this.
The games seem like a lot of fun. The capital of Australia question made me crack up. XD So there’s no footage of these radio shows at all? I know that some of the Negima radio shows in the past had video recordings, so I was just wondering…

Jokes weren’t too hard to catch, but I can imagine the fansubbers having a nightmare with the speed of the dialogue. I’ll probably only blog it if no one else does – not too keen on episodic blogging myself ^^
>Neo Horizon
The Negima radio shows didn’t broadcast live like Kyoran’s, which is why I guess more time to do all those extra footage things.
this one was fun to work on
looking forward to the endings frenzy ;3
