Kyoran Kazoku Nikki - Susume! Kyoran Denpa Nikki #4-5
Eh, I somehow got lazy and forgot to cover the radio show last week. So I’ll make it up and do both last and this week’s shows, plus some coverage of the live Kyoran event that was held a few days ago.
Kyoran Denpa Nikki #4 (25 April)

The day of the radio show, the Kyoran family got together at Yasumoto Hiroki (lion)’s house for an oden party (food prepared and cooked by Yasumoto). Anyway, the eight seiyuu apparently get on pretty well - Sato Rina (jellyfish) has set her ringtones for the 7 members to their character’s ending themes, and Tomatsu Haruka (formerly evil goth girl) says that they always use their positions in the family when sending text messages ie. Haruka ends her mails with 長女より (From the eldest daughter).

Anyway, Fujimura Ayumi (nekomama) & Rina’s dinner from the radio staff. This time Sato got off at the wrong station when riding the train to the recording studios. After drawing the ending themes for each station, the two of them talked about the upcoming live event. And when reading the the script for the show, the two seiyuu found out that one of them would have to go buy props for the event. Immediately. Neither Rina nor Ayumi wanted to go, but the staff had already decided in advance that whoever chose the bento set with more ikura (salmon roe) would sit in the studio presenting the show and the one who chose the set with more kanimeshi (crab rice) would have to go shopping.
So Fujimura had to go shopping for items for the event, to be decided by mails from the listeners. And Rina was to stay in the studio and try to earn money for the shopping budget. The staff had prepared different coloured ‘gift certificates’ of different value and Rina would have to pick one and play stupid games to earn money for Fujimura to spend.
The first one Rina picked was for ¥1000, and it was riddle challenge that she’d have to answer within 30 seconds. You’d have to know a bit of Japanese to understand this one.
Q: わっかを付けると、自分になる乗り物は何? (By adding a circle, what vehicle would ‘you’ become?)
A: タクシー (Taxi)
Explanation: The key word here is 自分 (oneself), which means that you’d have to think of a first-person pronoun and insert a わっか (circle) in it to end up with a vehicle name. Rina was on the right track, but couldn’t come up with the correct pronoun Watakushi (わたくし) which, by adding a 〇 to form 〇たくし (the 〇 is silent), you’d end up with ‘taxi’ (タクシー).
The ones she got were for two ¥1000 certs - tongue twisters (赤凶華様、黄凶華様、茶凶華様 - Aka Kyoka-sama, Ki Kyoka-sama, Cha Kyoka-sama), & the 7 times table (Rina is horrible at maths!) and the ¥5000 toilet paper challenge (rolling out the entire roll in one go within 1 minute).
Some of the mails readers sent in suggesting items for Fujimura to buy:
Piko Piko Hammer
Nekomimi & Neko tail
Helium gas
Toy glasses with moustache
Whiteboard and fountain pen
Live octopus
Amusingly, while Rina was trying to relay the items to buy to Ayumi on the mobile phone, the latter got sidetracked by the food on sale at the shop she was at. She only got back with about 15 minutes of the show left with most of the goods (bar the octopus) and also a lot of unrelated things like manicure sets and cheesecake that expires on the 21st May (keep this item in mind, you’ll see why later). And the total price of the goods exceeded ¥7000, but they let it slide cos “it’s Kyoka-sama after all”.

Whilst they were sifting through the items, Rina’s mobile phone rang - a Hyoka ringtone! Which meant it was Hirohashi Ryo on the line, but Rina & Ayumi were so engrossed in Hyoka’s song that they forgot to pick up the call. So they ended up having to ring Ryo back, and it turns out they were still at Yasumoto Hiroki’s house. She sounded drunk though, slurring half her words (actually, Ryo really was drunk, as she mentioned at the live event). There was also audible singing in the background when the phone was passed over to Yasumoto & Kondo Takayuki (daddy) XD. TK’s blog mentioned that he only went home from the party around 6am the next morning.
Kyoran Denpa Nikki #5 Live @ Akiba (2 May)
Around 400 people turned up for the event at Akihabara UDX, with some queueing since 4pm (the event started at 7.30pm). Nanairo no Senritsu has the most detailed report. The first 2 1/2 hours of the show had the whole cast playing all sorts of games and having little chats, as you do at most events. Sato Rina also revealed that the whole ‘family’ had had dinner together the night before, discussing what they were going to do at the event. All eight of the cast (+ MOSAIC.WAV) also got to perform their respective theme songs - one at a time, while the rest of the family did weird dances and squats in the background. In fact, they did so much squatting & moving around that Sato Rina complained of muscle pain in a blog post.
Hanazawa Kana, as always, stole the show with her unintentional(?) display of stupidity. Has a knack for saying the most unconventional (bizarre) things, I think she’s Hirohashi Ryo has found a rival at last! When Yasumoto asked each of the family to give Tomatsu Haruka a nickname, most of them made rather mundane suggestions (Toma-chan, Macchan etc) but Kana somehow came up with Amazon ?_? Is she suggesting that Haruka-chan is… tall like the Amazon women? (Haruka is about 164cm tall). Or is she supposed to be ‘big’ somewhere else ^^;
During the chat sessions, Fujimura Ayumi said that since Mother’s Day was coming up, all her family members should give her presents. What each of them said they’d give:
Sato Rina: a heart-filled letter of thanks
Tomatsu Haruka: a love confession
Hirohashi Ryo: a shoulder massage
Yasumoto Hiroki: “I’ll take all the hair you shed and make it into a pillow”
Fujita Yoshinori: a pink brassiere
Kondo Takayuki: “I’ll be as gentle to you as possible” (lol, read into that what you will)
Hanazawa Kana: “I’ll pack my younger brother into a fridge and send it to your house”

Image above is of the deluxe sushi set the staff got for the 5 seiyuu for the live recording radio section of the event which they ate on stage, whilst reading listener mails. It’s Gekka’s favourite food - I guess Yuka’s is the purple, talking fish that Kyoka-sama cooks.
They then played alternate version of the Life Game from episode 1 of the radio show using the box/car pictured below - it had proper lights and wheels, lol. All 5 of the girls had to stand inside the box throughout the game and give birth to as many ‘children’ as possible, attempting to surpass the world record of 69 childen born to some Russian lady. It was amusing that when they started using some English words, Sato Rina got Tomatsu to say Mother in proper English ie. Mother instead of Mazaa マザー, which she duly obliged (Rina knows Haruka took English ‘lessons’ for Moetan). But when Rina asked ‘So from a Mother, what is born?’, Hanazawa answered ‘Father’…that’s not the right answer, Kana-chan ^^; Oh, and they did manage to give birth to 69 kids throughout the game, heh.

Remember the third episode where Fujimura and Sato failed to read 60 mails within the show’s 1 hour runtime? At that point they were told that they’d get their punishment at the live event. So with around 15 minutes to go, Nakacchu (Gumin #4) brought out some blindfolds and headphones for the two girls and had them put it on. They put on some music (Ayu said her’s was the Kyoka-sama ED theme) so that they wouldn’t be able to hear what was going on around them, and were instructed to wait a bit while they made some preparations.
Fujimura Ayumi then took her headphones & blindfold off, leaving Rina alone; clueless, blind and deaf. Turns out they weren’t going to get punished after all -_- The day of the event (2nd of May) also happens to be Sato Rina’s birthday so the staff members had prepared a little celebration for her in advance. The event’s attendees had also received a sheet of instructions beforehand on what to do at the appointed time, so when Hirohashi Ryo instructed Rina to remove her blindfold she got the entire hall wishing her a happy birthday (Happy Birthday, Jellyfish! lol). She was so touched by the whole thing that she started crying halfway through, awww.
Fujimura then proceeded to present her with a birthday cake…it was the cheesecake that she bought on the shopping trip from last week XD That made poor Rina very disappointed, but not for long. Ayu then got everyone to sing Happy Birthday, and lo & behold! The rest of the Kyoran family brought out the real birthday cake, a replica of Rina’s Gekka.

And a close-up (from TK’s blog):

Yasumoto Hiroki explained that the pink parts were cake, and the tentacles were candy bits. Tomatsu Haruka’s blog post (below) after the event showed that the cake had been massacred to bits, poor Gekka XD And that’s Haruka standing inside the box/car (to illustrate how big it is).

Overall it seemed like a pretty fun event, and the blog posts I’ve read covering it have all been positive. Everyone seemed to crown Hanazawa Kana as MVP anyway ^^; She’s definitely turning out to be one of the most quotable young seiyuu around (anyone who’s seen the Mantora video will know what I’m talking about). In fact, I’ll probably do a post on that in the near future - Hanazawa Kana’s Weird Weird World, heh.
