Macross Frontier Rules the Oricon Charts
I think this is the first time in absolutely ages, or maybe the first time ever, that a seiyuu single has ranked in the Oricon Top 10 for three consecutive weeks. So congratulations to Sakamoto Maaya - Triangler is at No.6 again this week (3→6→6) and the 12,886 copies sold brings its total sales so far up to 56,706. If you want a comparison, Mizuki Nana’s best selling single is SECRET AMBITION (Nanoha StrikerS OP1), which notched up 75,256 in total sales. Maaya’s own personal best is Kiseki no Umi (Lodoss OP) which chalked up 66,340 sales despite debuting at only No.43.

Anyhow, Triangler looks set to be trumped by Sheryl Nome starring May’n’s Diamond Crevasse single, which in this week’s chart, has matched Maaya’s No.3 entry but with higher sales of 42,714 (versus Triangler’s 31,270) although May’n faced less competition this week than Maaya did three weeks ago.
It is a shame though, that Maaya has to rely on the Macross Frontier link to actually shift some CDs. Her sales record over her career shows that she tends to sell more when the songs have decent tie-ins (Rahxephon) than when they don’t - her last single Saigo no Kajitsu sold a paltry 14,152 copies.
Besides, I think Triangler is one of her most rubbish singles ever… (subjective opinion, I suppose).
Ranka Lee/Nakajima Megumi’s single is coming on June 25th, so we’ll see if the power of Macross Frontier holds out until then.

Maaya Sakamoto is my favorite seiyuu singer and this is one way to convince people how amazing she really is. Triangular is all right, but my favorite songs by her would probably be Kiseki no Umi, Gravity, and POKETTO wo Kura ni Shite (from her album Hotchpotch).

I thought Maaya could have done a bit better with Triangler, but sales is sales, and great job to Maaya for that!

I think Triangler’s pretty okay for what it is, and I can say I like it a lot. “Kimiiii wa dare to KISU wo suru” keeps getting stuck in my head along with Sheryl’s songs. Besides, it’s the return of the YK-MS cooperation~ let’s hope for more good stuff from them.
Sheryl’s songs are pretty solidly done, but the one I’m most surprised at is Ranka’s Megumi Nakajima. She really does have innate talent for singing it seems. Her version of “My Boyfriend is a Pilot” is the one that always comes to head instead of the original version.

I’m pretty sure Victor Entertainment would have noted Nakajima’s singing skills in their auditions - always a good idea to sell a fefw more CDs!

Hemisphere is Maaya’s best single, so it’s okay that tie-ins work.
