First of all, 恭喜發財! If you can’t read that, it’s probably not meant for you.

It’s just about halfway through the traditionally dull winter anime season; and fast approaching the traditionally brisk spring season - now’s the time to scour BBSes for the latest seiyuu cast news. I’m an ANN encyclopedia staff member though I can’t say I contribute much apart from inputting lots and lots of staff and cast info, and poring through all those dreaded error reports.

So is Itou Shizuka is the new Noto Mamiko? There was a point around 2004/2005 where Mamimami seemed to be in just about everything - it was near impossible to watch an anime without her in it. Unfortunately, she’s been outgunned by Shizuka-sama who’ll be in a grand total of 76 anime that start airing in April (Mamiko’s in 4 announced so far). Shizuka’s long-running show is D.Gray-man, Mamiko’s are Keroro Gunsou and Nodame Cantabile. Makes you wonder how on earth they’ll get round to recording all their lines, given there’s only 7 days in a week…….

There’s a whole load more seiyuu who have at least 3 roles in the upcoming season or long-running shows; Miyata Kouki, Takeuchi Junko, Inoue Marina, Tamura Yukari, Kugimiya Rie, Yukana, Ishida Akira, Shimizu Ai, Nakahara Mai, Kitamura Eri, Tanaka Rie…. the list stretches for about a mile.

Just looking at the lists above there’s plenty of overlaps; I wonder if it’s the seiyuu’s agencies/management that pushes them to take on all these roles (attending a zillion auditions) or if they’re really hard up for cash, taking whatever comes their way. Hope they don’t all end up stressed like poor ‘ol Hirano Aya….(though Mamiko’s been working endlessly for the last 3 years and still seems fine).

Itou Shizuka must be doing so much stuff to finance/make up for her drinking sessions! She recently lost her mobile phone whilst on a bender and had to buy a new one. I reckon 90% of her radio shows mention the word sake at least once.
