More Anime Radio Shows
First of all, this is Kasimasi #45 for Lil Donkey, hope you’re reading this (it’s in wma format): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8IOTC3WL
I only got into anime out of boredom some 5-6 years ago; and even now I can’t say I see it anything more than a part-time hobby. A by-product of this is my interest in seiyuu; I find that I spend a significant amount of time listening to anime/seiyuu radio shows and music than actually watching anime. Everytime I check up on an anime, new or old; the things I investigate are (in order of importance):
1. Seiyuu cast list
2. Who’s doing the music
3. Music-related goods released
4. Any radio show?
5. The plot/premise of the show.
So, yeah. So how much radio do I listen to every week? It all depends on my lecture timetable, which is fairly sparse this year. This is a table of radio shows I’m currently tuning into (please forgive my inabilty to write proper HTML), though Saturday is usually reserved for the football so I tend to give most of them a miss unless there’s guests I’m interested in. There’s a pretty extensive list of net anime radio shows in Japanese here; some free, some not. Anyway I’m going to cover some stuff I’ve been listening to of late.
Mahora Gakuen Chuutobu 3-A: Himitsu no Houkago

I only noticed they changed personalities some 3 weeks ago, which meant I missed out on the first couple of episodes. The current hosts are Kuwatani Natsuko (Yue) and Ishige Sawa (Haruna). The best bit in the show is Yue’s Tetsugaku.Dokugaku.Shinmikaku corner. What is Yue most famous for? Yeah, her crazy drinks. So what they do is listeners send in their own concoctions made up of 3 ingredients and Nacchan and Sacchan have to sample them and guess what it is.
Recipes so far:
1. tomato juice (40cc) + soya milk(40cc) + lemon cider(40cc)
2. green tea (20cc) + cola (20cc) + pineapple juice (40cc)
3. corn soup (60cc) + milk tea (60cc) + cocoa (20cc)
4. milk + sugar (10g) + umeboshi (3)
5. yuzu + coffee + sugar
No.4 was the worst apparently, and Kuwatani made retching sounds whilst drinking it. I’m tempted to try it out – if I could actually find any umeboshi.
Suigintou no Koyoi mo Ennui

Hosted by the cold and calculating Suigintou aka Tanaka Rie. There’s two main corners, Junk ni shite ageru is the normal nayami-soudan corners, except Suigintou doesn’t help listeners with their problems but rather makes fun of them in a condescending manner. Watashi no Kuroi Tenshi-sama is where listeners apply to be Suigintou’s medium by sending in supposed ‘words of wisdom’ or sayings that will move her heart. Suigintou spends most of the show threatening to turn ppl into junk, or saying that she’s bored…..
A little aside, on Enomoto Atsuko and Ochiai Yurika’s radio show the other day, Acchan was talking about how one of her older sisters had the misfortune of bringing up three otaku children. She said one of them (around 4-5 yrs old I think) was a Rozen Maiden fan and eventhough he/she couldn’t write kanji properly, could write 水銀燈 (Suigintou) perfectly. Enomoto also mentioned that the other two kids’ favourite anime were Galaxy Angel and D.Gray-Man respectively.
Lucky Star – Lucky Channel

I was disappointed that they replaced the entire drama cast (the likes of Nakahara Mai, Hirohashi Ryo, Koshimizu Ami, Shimizu Ai etc) with a bunch of young seiyuu (Hirano Aya, Katou Emiri, Chihara Minori etc). Anyway I decided to give the radio show a go; it’s hosted by two seiyuu I’ve heard little about – Konno Hiromi (Potato the dog in Air) and Shiraishi Minoru (Taniguchi in Haruhi). Amusingly, Shiraishi’s character in Lucky Star is also called Shiraishi Minoru (different kanji though). I had no idea Konno’s voice was that high-pitched… the show itself has just started so there’s not much I can say about it at the moment…. except that Konno (upon being asked about her first impression of Shiraishi after reading the daihon/script) thought that Shiraishi the seiyuu would be a fairly old guy (he’s actually 28).
Other random stuff I picked up from radio shows over the last fortnight or so:
1. Mugicha + milk (+ a little gum syrup) tastes like café au lait, but honey + cucumber tastes nothing like melons – according to Shimokawa Mikuni on her Mikumori show.
2. Eating acorns is not recommended – according to Horie Yui.
3. Neeko (the voice of Reborn from Katekyo Hitman Reborn) sounds WEIRD in real life. Talks exactly like Reborn >_>
4. Kobayashi Yu’s parents listen to her radio show 0_o (how old is she???) so she’s not allowed to say anything out of line.

I just felt like inserting this pic ^^; (Goto Yuko on the left, Kobayashi Yu on the right). Only 3 episodes into what should be at least a year’s worth of Animelomix radio shows, Yu is already showing off her tennen boke prowess, she’s so not fit for radio work I reckon I could do a better job. Yuko needs to be more harsh on her!
“If you were stuck on a deserted island, what would you choose to bring (apart from the basic necessities)?”
Kobayashi’s answers:
1. A metal pipe (for digging and crushing stuff….. God knows what though)
2. A tape recorder (so she can practise her lines -_-;)
3. Fan letters
……….@_@ WTH, those aren’t what normal human beings would say. I’d prefer a lighter, my family members and oh erm… some loo roll maybe. I was surpised when they played Luchador. Her performance of it at the Sukuran matsuri is amazing (I mean that in a good way).
I’ll leave you with this segment from Mizuki Nana’s Smile Gang (oh, and Happy 27th Birthday, Nana-chan!) where we learn some rather interesting ‘facts’ about Singapore. The quiz corner is where Nana bets a certain amount of Smadol (fictitious currency) answering all sorts of random questions sent in by listeners and if she manages to get 20,000 Smadols she wins a trip to Las Vegas with the Fukuen family (her co-host is Fukuen Misato) and if she ends up with 0 Smadols she has to do all sorts of embarassing things.
Last week, the two questions Nana picked were:
1. I am in Class 2-1. I have a girlfriend in Class 2-2. There was once where I wanted to be with her through the whole day so I devised a plan to sit through all of Class 2-2’s lessons without the teacher noticing (which succeeded). What was my plan?
2. On the 31st of December around 10pm, my grandfather, 81-year old Tatsuo suddenly started screaming ‘Kore taihen darou ga, taihen darou ga!’. What happened to make him scream like that?

First of all – THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THAT KASHIMASHI SHOW. =33
‘4. Kobayashi Yu’s parents listen to her radio show 0_o (how old is she???) so she’s not allowed to say anything out of line.’
W-wah…? And she’s turning 26 as well. o.o Poor woman.
Also O.oing @ Nana’s questions.
