As one of the few remaining members of the cult of Nanrietta, I feel it is my duty to report that Nanri Yuuka will be releasing her first solo single on 25th February 2008 (the same day the FictionJunction compilation album ‘everlasting songs’ hits stores). Titled Odyssey (オデッセイ), the lead track for the single is the theme song for the upcoming Nintendo DS game Dengeki Gakuen RPG Cross of Venus – I think I might’ve mentioned this in passing a few months ago.

Both Odyssey and its c/w track Dear are composed & arranged by one-time Matsuda Seiko producer Toriyama Yuji, while Odyssey has Iwasato Yuho (a Kanno Yoko collaborator) writing the lyrics. Dear also sees Nanri co-writing the lyrics with Iwasato, the first time she has done so. Guess Kajiura Yuki wouldn’t let her have a look-in with FictionJunction YUUKA, heh.

Iwasato’s involvement does intrigue me somewhat, and though all I’ve heard of the song is like… the 5-second snippet off the TV CM (see youtube or Crunchyroll), I’m already putting in an order for it (CDJapan or Amazon?) – it’s only ￥1000 after all.

As a side note, Nanri will also be making a return to TV anime voice-acting – her last regular series was Mai-Otome, and that was ages ago. When I saw her name on the Sora o Kakeru Shojo cast list page I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Goodness knows how big Yuuka’s role will be but the site indicates that her character is headstrong & selfish, which I imagine will be somewhat like her devious Nao from My-HiME.

Nice to see her taking on another role at last, I thought she had dumped voice acting for good – was particularly depressed when the whole cast got changed for Gunslinger Girl – Il Teatrino – Henrietta just wasn’t Henrietta without Yuuka.
