Nyan Tora at No.2; Ponyo, Suzumura Kenichi & Mizuki Nana Pwn Hirano Aya
ALBUMS
**1 132,772 Expressions 竹内まりや (Takeuchi Mariya)
**2 102,331 マクロスF O.S.T.2 娘トラ。菅野よう子 (Nyan Tora)
Nyan Tora lost out to Takeuchi Mariya in the end as expected. I’m happy Mariya’s 4-CD best of compilation is selling so well (it’s in its second week), sure to get past the 500k mark now. Not bad for a 53-year old o-baba ^^; But Nyan Tora managed to break the 100k barrier so it’s not all bad news.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
Seriously, I don’t know why NAMIDAx3 sold that badly – I mean, Lion nearly beat it and it’s in its 8th week of charting. Only slightly over half of what MonStAR and Neophilia sold in their first weeks, and 2k lower than the already poorly performing Unnamed World. At least Hirano’s album sales are good!
And look at Ponyo is in its 17th bloody week (go away FFS) and Nana in her second week. And Suzumura… fangirl power FTW!
To tell the truth, I loved the Suzumura single – he doesn’t actually sound too shabby on record, even if he looks rather dodgy in the PV (oi, stop stupid hand movements please). The songs are all generic Jrock which definitely sits better with me than any other idol type music anyway. I think I’m going to add INTENTION to my shopping basket soon…

Lmao, he looks as if he’s got stomach cramps.. xDD If he wants to move his hands for action, might as well move both… zzz… But his voice is wow
Despite being a Hirano Aya-hater, I thought Namidax3 was pretty bad, even for her standards.
I’ve been wondering what this Ponyo thing is… I’ve listened to it and wondered WHY it’s selling so well. Now I realize it’s the power of the Ghibli x Miyazaki combination.
I LOVE the Macross Frontier OST… May’n and Nakajima Megumi’s version of Triangler blew me away. 0_o
Even though I’m a Hirano-supporter, I agree with OtaAgg.
Also, the song doesn’t really suit the show’s atmosphere. A lighthearted school comedy with an ending song with lines like ‘Oh, my lonely heart’, ‘tears, tears, tears’, ‘*emo emo*’, etc.
How could someone think that this one would work?
Suzumura’s single is quite good, but srsly the PV is a turn-off.. *shivers*
And the Ponyo song is pretty funny (especially the fact that it sold 300k+), but there’s no way I’m gonna buy it except there’s a JAM Project version or something.
Given good songs, Hirano (without vibrato) can sing pretty well, I liked her album. But Namida3 is fail (just like Tsunku).. and I’ve never seen her CD got this many bad reviews in Amazon. I wonder where are her supporters going? Since I still see quite many Ayatards around. (…and OMG, it’s a freakin’ birthday CD!)
ROFL at the Ponyo pic! I can’t stand that song, either!
Suzumura does look a bit uncomfortable in that PV The song is just o.k. to me. Suzumura’s singing skills don’t exactly blow me away.
yup its gotta be the tsunku factor
It’s not so much the hand movements to me, it’s like… the rest of his body’s movements xDD
but wow I really like the song. He can sing like wtf I’ve heard a few other of his songs and they were very average.
YAY FOR SUZUKEN xD
Wow, Suzumiya’s singing somehow reminds me of Fujii Fumiya. O_o I think it’s the way he prounce the words or something.
As for Hirano’s Namida, it’s just further proof that anime/seiyuu otaku don’t really like mainstream shovelware pop (if they did they would be idol otakus instead). You can see it all in the Amazon review that everyone was raging on about tsunku. Hirano’s management wanted buzz from the collabroation but it blew up right in their face.
i’ve always liked most of suzumura-san’s songs.. this is not an exception, i like it too!! but the pv is indeed, a turn-off.. tt’s the bad thing i guess.. haha.. hmm.. can they reshoot the pv? haha.. i find tt i like the song better without watching the pv..
I think houkoholic gets it right: bad managerial decision to try to put Hirano with Tsunku. Better to give his songs to 13-year-old idols. Perhaps they were looking to further increase Aya’s popularity among girls. Also, the anime had just started, and hadn’t time to build up its own fanbase.
Pesonally, I like some of Tsunku’s stuff, but whether it’s his fault or hers, this song seemed pretty nondescript to me. As I said in my blog, I prefer the simple little Memories Off6 character single Aya put out a couple of weeks earlier. I think she can do hard stuff and soft stuff, but the mainstream stuff may not be her thing.
Suzumura’s song is very good schlock pop — which I can certainly get into. Can’t get into his appearance on the PV, however.
It’s ironic that j1m0ne is not that enthusiastic about Trickster. I almost began to understand Nana’s appeal from it, even though it still falls into the category of skilful but overblown for me. I try to avoid bad-mouthing Nana (if admitting your inability to get her is badmouthing her), but since j1m0ne has no such compunctions about Aya, I figure I can just tell the truth here.
@hashihime
…but I like Trickster! It’s one of my favourite Nana songs in recent years =_= I don’t know where you get the idea that I’m not enthusiastic about it.
I don’t mind if you badmouth Nana or anyone else I like – since I badmouth them all the time myself (guess that’s why I attract trolls) *shrug* No point in being protective of somebody who I don’t own.
Erm. I only liked Tsunku back in the Sharan Q days. Otherwise, blerrgh.
It is a bit of a shame that NAMIDAx3 had to be Hirano’s birthday single though – way to screw up the 21st birthday celebrations -_-
