Promo: DaiCon 2009

What is Daicon?
DaiCon is an expo, being organized on a scale rarely seen in Malaysia. It is an expo that has been created for the sole purpose of showcasing the latest and most innovative in the world of modern Japanese visual culture, from audio to video, print as well as interactive media.

There will be exhibitions on all facets of modern Japanese visual culture, live hands-on demonstrations, as well as numerous competitions. Besides that, you’ll also be able to get an inside look at the thriving and ever-expanding ACG (Anime, Comic and Games) community in Malaysia, with cosplayers showcasing their elaborate and intricate costumes, and fan artists showcasing their high-quality productions for purchase at affordable prices.

Event Details
Date: 11-12th July 2009
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Venue: The Grand Hall of Multimedia University, Cyberjaya

Straight from the website, where further details (location, events etc) are available.

So uh…. it’s an anime convention of sorts. I can’t tell you what it’s gonna be like as I’ve never attended one before, the only conventions I’ve ever been to all involved politicians, smart suits and plenty of smoked salmon. Something tells me that DaiCon won’t be anything close to that, and probably involves infinitely more fun stuff like karaoke, cosplay and figurine exhibitions - who knows, we might get handed complimentary radishes too.

Pssstt. There might be a seiyuu coming. Guesses currently range from Shiraishi Minoru to Hirano Aya to Chihara Minori. Pick your poison! I’m personally hoping for somebody like Kaneda Tomoko.

…at the very least you’ll be able to meet me in person, if I haven’t already fainted from fangirl hysteria or something. It’ll be relatively easy to spot me, I’ll be the one running around like a headless chicken wondering which direction the toilet is in (again, if I haven’t already fainted from fangirl hysteria). Give me a wave (or a paper bag) if you see me running by.

Updates to come when they come.

    So will this be your first time meeting a seiyuu in the flesh?

    Ps. I am going on holiday to Malaysia this summer, I wonder If I can make enough time to stalk you :P

    @Kraker2k: you can’t because I’ve already booked her. xD

    Can’t trust those April Fool posts heh. But any seiyuu would be better than One Piece VA we got in Aussie.

    I hope that there will be a guest, that’ll make most of your yuri-seiyuu dreams come true.
    And if I ever read something along the lines of ‘Female visitor nose bled all over Chihara Minori (or one of your other favorite seiyuu) during Malaysian anime convention’ I’m pretty sure, I’ll know who they’re talking about :p

    I live in the city that hosts one of the largest anime conventions in Germany, but the chances of a seiyuu visiting it are probably close to 0… ;_; world, thy art so cruel… [melodramatic, huh?]

    Therefore I wish you better luck on that. And the physical ability to make it through it without fainting.

    I have travel plans this spring already; otherwise this might be tempting. However, if Minorin plays in, say, Singapore or Hong Kong next year, I might seriously consider that. I was just thinking about stuff like this this morning while goofing off at work.

    It’s just one (very long) hop across the Pacific, whereas from America’s east to west coast more often than not you have to transfer somewhere.

    But j1m0ne, how are we going to identify you at DaiCon if we don’t know what you look like?!

    Since Cyberjaya isn’t all that far compared to Melaka, I wouldn’t mind attending this. Assuming I didn’t have classes then.

    @Phil: Well, sadly to say it’s all up to fan base. Beside, the distance is too far away to Europe.

    @Owen S: count me in…for requesting what j1m0ne looks like…www

    @Kraker2k
    Heh, hope you can make it!

    @danie~
    Yes yes you are first in line, always ;)

    @Phil
    Europe is a bit of a desert for seiyuu unfortunately :( I was there for 5 years and I can’t remember anyone ever coming…

    @Andrew
    Or you could just go direct to Japan to see them ^^

    @Owen & sandy4a
    Er yeah I’m shy, I don’t want to reveal my butt-ugly face for fear of traumatising ppl.

    @OtaAgg
    I’m poor too ;(

    @townberry
    You are the only pervert in Malaysia, hun.

    @JimOne

    That would be nice too. But I’ve long had a fascination with SE Asia…plus English is more widely spoken in your neck of the woods. :)

    PS: According to Expedia, it seems there are no longer any direct flights from Los Angeles to Singapore. I’d have to transfer in…Tokyo. Still, ANA’s current price is US$800 round trip. Not bad for a trans-Pacific flight; I thought there wouldn’t be anything less than $1000.

    Minorin is so fabulously pretty IRL. Of course, I’ve only barely been within arms length of her presence. lol I sound creepy.

    Sounds awesome. We hope for a lulzy report post-con time.

    Lol, let’s just hope that it’s a good seiyuu. Wisma Putra is working hard on getting one. Anyways if it’s Halko, I’d hug her. But if she starts singing songs from the Punk Rock collection, I’d falcon punch her

    Great.NEEVER did AANYONE bother that SOME people are living on an island and never get to go to such cons. Yeees, we all ‘live on trees’ and we ‘dont know the world’ as much as you guys do.

    I feel so depressed now.
