First Quarter 2008 Seiyuu News Round-Up
I sometimes read random things on the seiyuu news grapevine and think… should I make a post about it? More often than not I end up not bothering for a couple of reasons (no time, lazy etc), but since I always save up news pieces I find interesting…well. Might as well pass it on, someone out there will hopefully find something interesting in here.
January
・Kaida Yuko is officially married.

There had already been rumours making the rounds, but a picture on some eco-tourism blog confirmed what fans probably already knew - Kaida Yuko is married. Her husband is a theatre actor named Tomoyuki and boy, he’s a pretty sharp looking dude. Kaida is most well known for voicing Otori Amane in Strawberry Panic and Ryomo Shimei in the Ikkitousen series.
・Hirano Aya actually spent Christmas alone.
This is one of those stupid 2channel things analysing how Hirano posted pics on her blog on Xmas eve supposedly showing her at some party, but a swift check of the images with Exif Reader showed that she was actually eating dinner alone on the night itself. Of course, nobody bothered to point out that the blog post was titled ‘Christmas Party’ and not ‘Christmas Eve Party’. I still don’t get why people care that whether or not Hirano spent Xmas on her own, lying or connatations of loneliness or whatever. Who cares?
・Ochiai Yurika successfully loses 3kg!

Diet, diet, diet. What is the point? She must’ve seen that picture in my embarassing pics post and hurried off to buy some oat burgers and tofu cakes.
Others:
・Inoue Marina moves agencies.
・Voice & Heart agency mass exodus.
・Minorin says the word ‘j1m0ne’, j1m0ne squeals in delight.
February
・Ito Miki does voiceover for McDonalds’ potato chip ad.
I’m lovin it.
・Zetsubo-sensei girls’ date.

A show of solidarity - after the lunch/dinner(?) date, all the girls who had blogs posted pictures of their… hands without telling readers which hand belonged to whom. But don’t worry, I have it all deciphered by way of elimination. I personally think it’s incredibly sad that I was able to tell which was Inoue Marina’s hand straightaway - it was the nails that gave it away. The absentees from the date were Goto Yuko, Kobayashi Yu (guess her parents wouldn’t let her eat out) and Sawashiro Miyuki.
・Magazine mistakes Sakakibara Yui for Nakahara Mai.

The editor (I think it’s Double X mag) needs to be shot, both for the mistake and for their dubious choices for Top 3 Moe Voice and Body Seiyuu. Bijin Seiyuu?? Horie Yui???
Others:
・Kitamura Eri vomited blood when Chihara Minori asked to exchange phone numbers.
・houkoholic kills Ueda Kana.
・Hasegawa Shizuka shuts down blog after harsh comments.
・Goto Yuko’s blog’s sudden rise in popularity.
・Bandai USA get Code Geass seiyuu names wrong (Taeko Chiba? Junko Minakawa?).
March
・Kuwatani Natsuko is addicted to snowboarding.

Over the course of 4-5 months, Kuwatani has been on four separate snowboarding trips with the likes of Ueda Kana, Shimizu Kaori & Yoshino Hiroyuki. Nacchan must be bored of having no work whilst she moves agencies…actually, she just moves downstairs as Artsvision and I’m Enterprise are in the same building. Sadly, I think she only owns one set of winter gear cos she’s wearing the same clothes on all those trips :/
・Chihara Minori drives fans crazy.
And she might end up being banned from concert venues if her fans don’t behave. C’mon (Nihon) people, don’t give Minorin a hard time.
・Chiba Saeko’s website massively scaled down.
Another sign that her career is also being scaled down massively. From having a fanclub, a regularly updated blog and website (formerly called Happy Go Lucky) to a rather shit Space Craft profile page. Inching closer to babies and eventual retirement?
・Noto Mamiko’s wiki entry vandalised.

In similar fashion to Hirano Aya’s wiki entry incident. Unlike Hirano’s which was spammed with death wishes (Shine, shine, shine), Mamiko’s was filled with “Noto Kawaii yo Kawaii yo Kawaii yo Kawaii yo etc” for about a million lines.
・Shintani Ryoko has lots of seiyuu friends.
Way to tell if a seiyuu is popular amongst their peers in the industry - check the number of seiyuu who turn up at their live events as a show of support. Shintani’s live which saw more than 10 seiyuu in attendance, including the likes of Inoue Nana, Inoue Marina, Kamiya Hiroshi, Nakahara Mai and Mizushima Takahiro. For Minorin’s live, I vaguely recall Morinaga Rika, Kitamura Eri and Kadowaki Maii attending, and Mizuki Nana had quite a few too.
Others:
・Second Seiyuu Awards are full of rubbish.
・Nakahara Mai & Ueda Kana as Japan’s military ambassadors.
・Code Geass webmasters truncate Arai Satomi’s name by mistake (should be 新井里美).
Maybe I’ll make it a monthly thing from now on…

This post made my day. It´s funny to read some rare news like these, like the one from the seiyuu magazine, simply epic. And well, I don´t like Hirano Aya at all (don´t wanna say I hate her), but those people going so far show themselves to be damn stupid.
@ Maybe I’ll make it a monthly thing from now on…
Please!

The real question, however is whether Ueda and Shimizu have gotten Kuwatani addicted to Halo yet.

The magazine pic is from a general adult-orientated magazine, not a seiyuu magazine. There has been a few more non-anime/seiyuu/game magazines covering “bijin seiyuu” recently.
>jpmeyer
No, but Udea Kana did get Kuwatani Natsuko into Monster Hunter Portable.

Just one thing I want to say, the Itou Miki McDonald ad was a big surprise.

There was a lot of interesting stuff in that post, so thanks for the good read. I enjoyed the ZSZS blurb the most. Good job for figuring out which hand belonged to which seiyuu and double good job for recognizing Inoue Marina’s hand right away.
By the way, what are they eating?

>Neo Horizon
It was monjayaki (similar to okonomiyaki) that they were eating

That voiceover ad makes me think back about the scene in Marimite where Sachiko is introduced to the joys and wonders of fast food dining. XD Awesome.
