Spring 2009 Anime Season Guide
Time of the year again?
This is a no-frills, straight-up, easy-reference guide to TV anime (+ long running OVA) that commences airing within the March-April 2009 timeframe. Which means Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!! (airdate May/June) is off the list.
Format hasn’t changed much, but I’m now including links to staff blogs which seems to be a popular thing to do nowadays. They’re great to check out for the behind the scenes going-ons, and for extra bits like art concepts and goods that don’t make it to print or the official site.
More in-depth season guides can be found at:

Comments: Frankly, I’m amazed that a second season got greenlighted since the first’s DVD sales tanked. I can’t say I’m particularly enamoured by the moe-fied character designs, I thought they looked alright the last time out.

Stuff:
-I honestly give up trying to work out what I want to watch before a season starts, because I almost always end up watching things I never intend to. Like how SoraKake & Rideback ended up being my biggest priorities of the winter shows despite not originally planning to watch either. And how this time last year, kure-nai wasn’t even on my radar but I had actually planned to watch shit like Special A.
-Most of the short descriptions of this season’s anime seem to go ‘(insert person) does (something) and (something else) happens’. I guess I’m running out of words to describe ‘yet another shonen show’?
-If I was gonna pick anything based on the seiyuu cast, it’d be Hatsukoi Limited. & Saki.
-Based on the wacky trailer – Higashi no Eden seems a pretty good bet too.
-I guess it’s a sad season for Mizuki Nana fans? Slim pickings this time, I somehow doubt anyone really wants to endure watching Polyphonica for their Nana fix. Guess she’s busy recording & gearing up for the release of the new album.

FFFFFFUUUUUU—Nobody can do Rosie like Megu. This is a serious letdown for me. Maybe I won’t even watch the damn thing and just replay the game.
- Who cares about spring season without Nana if Nanoha the Movie is coming out soon? …maybe. All I’ve been hearing are news about it, not an actual release date.
- When CDJapan notify me about Queen’s Blade ED, I couldn’t stop laughing. They should have added Goto Yuko to the list.
- No I’ve for Hayate no Gotoku? Weird.
Yeah, I have no clue what to watch until I actually see them. Most preview posts are just good for links and background info like directors and whatever.
Still good to have a clue though.
What’s up with all the Megu dropouts though. RUMORS.
I secretly want to watch Hanasakeru Seishōnen, it contains such a top of the range (male)seiyuu cast, yet I know its going to be more for the BL fangirls.
Is it just me or does Irino Miyu have loads of roles this season? I can count up to 6 I think.
Any chance of dong a list like last time of the most starring roles this season?
And why is Sugita’s only role this season some bird show I’ve never heard of of lol?
Not a big season for Minorin either, I see. Or Aya Hirano.
@danie~
Yeah when I saw the Queen’s Blade ED I was eating noodles – promptly choked and they (the noodles) got sucked up to my nose. That’s how horrible it was.
@omo
No idea what’s going on with the Megu dropouts, she’s only doing Cross Game as far as I can see…
@Kraker2k
Oh I am working on that seiyuu guide thing… I just fell asleep writing it last night ^^;
@Andrew
Thank God on both counts, I guess.
Not a big season for Marina either… I actually sat there waiting for marina to show up… only 1? *sighs* I’m hoping she doesn’t get typecast as the military female character (impossible, with her Kana, but… you never know…)
And YAY school food punishment
Another thing I get to say that I was “into before they were cool”
3
Oh, and there’s a ton of Nonoka Ai this season… Wowsa
>> No idea what’s going on with the Megu dropouts, she’s only doing Cross Game as far as I can see…
Maybe she got tired of working on crap like Akikan.
D: no megu? divided by zero
Paku Romi voicing a bird with a beard? I’m sold.
Hahaha Randomly picking and watch if any yuri content >=D
Well, at least I get to see Marina in Valkyria…but dunno if I’ll survive the season2 of Hayate no Gotoku -_-
Too little…Why dun Marina also release an album and some pv >=O
I’m total bored for the season eh…
Oh…gosh…no minorin is no fun and where’s Satou Rina?
wow.. miyu irino seems to haf quite a lot of roles dis time.. i keep seeing his name..
No new roles for Yukarin either
>Pro seiyuu support
>Aya Hirano
Oh you.
It was pretty sad to not see Minorin anywhere in those staff sections, but then again most of her roles are her sounding really high-pitched/annoying or lazy/quiet. Really unfortunate her singing voice can’t carry over to her other day job.
Is Polyphonica really as bad as I hear it is? I’m thinking of watching it now that I know there’s a second season and Nana Mizuki is in it…
On a side note, everything this season seems to either be an adaptation or a sequel. Honestly…anime originality no longer exists. Depressing. :/
No idea how I’m going to survive with all the Megu dropouts…
I was so depressed when I found out she wasn’t in fma anymore that I nearly didn’t want to watch it, even if it’s one of my faves.
Did she mention anything on her blog (I can’t read Japanese).
the girl in Asura Cryin’ look like the older vivio eh? only 1 nana role this season…would nanoha movie 1st be up soon?oo
