Super Girls Unit「Sphere」is Formed
Though I’m not sure which part of Sphere qualifies as being super. I doubt your casual seiyuu fan could even positively ID any of the girls in the pic above…
So basically, it’s Sony’s Music Ray’n seiyuu agency attempt at pimping their four talents Kotobuki Minako (new), Takagaki Ayahi (Noe in true tears), Tomatsu Haruka (Nagi in Kannagi) and Toyosaki Aki (Su in Shugo Chara!) as a seiyuu idol group. I’m pretty sure they’ve had this planned for a while, and were just waiting for Minako to graduate from high school before launching their idol assault.
God knows how they’re gonna write songs that fit all 4 voices – Takagaki is only good at singing opera and sucks at pop music, Toyosaki talks and sings like she’s on helium, Tomatsu can sing all sorts of stuff, all badly, while we’ve not heard Kotobuki sing a note at all. I bet they’ll end up with techno rubbish or horrible galge pop, urgh.
So yeah, you can pretty much tell I’m not at all enthusiastic about this whole Pl@net sphere project thingy, I’m about 80% sure it’s gonna fall flat on its face like other seiyuu agency idol groups DROPS (Aoni) and Clover (RAMS) did. Who the heck are they expecting to appeal to? None of the four seiyuu has a particularly strong fanbase so unless they land a ridiculous gig like an Eva movie theme song or something like that I can’t see where the sales are coming from…

Edit : So there will be a tie-up after all – Sphere x Trickster 0 Love (a Korean MMORPG). They’ll be singing the game’s image song, and will be voicing cute pets within the game… right.
PS. Takagaki is the oldest and the shortest…

PSSS. And they really should’ve gone for a more innovative name, like uh… Super Idol Seiyuu Girls. Last.fm tells me there are at least five artists with the name Sphere…
I predict they will go and copy Perfume’s techno pop songs where they just distort the voices so they all sound like Vocaloids.
lol my first reaction was, just how short Ayahi is? If Tomacchan is about 160cm then Ayahi is like what, 140cm? ^^;; Assuming they’re smart enough to wear similar heels.
Well they look quite cute so I’ll check out the PV later. No expectation on the singing at all.
1. Ayahime is so short she doesn’t even give her height in her own profile. And Japanese Wikipedia doesn’t have a number either.
2. If you think Tomatsu Haruka sings badly, we really do have different taste. I loved her OP and ED for Kannagi.
3. I didn’t realize Music Ray’n was Sony. Naruhodo. It all makes sense now. But yes, Ayahime is an opera singer, not a pop singer. I’m sure they are working on that as best they can.
4. Having been enabled by my enjoyment of White Album to hear Nana-chan’s OP repeatedly, I now realize how good her voice really is. The light but strong way it bounces through parts of that song is wonderful. Her style still feels artificial to me, but I enjoy the OP every week. One of my few ways of judging music’s quality is to see if a piece seems better the more I listen to it. Check.

2.I’m not the only one who thinks Tomatsu Haruka sings badly. Tomacchan herself says that her own singing is terrible, so I’m not gonna dispute that opinion, heh.
Oh, and for the record the height of the MuRay girls:
Tomatsu: 164cm
Toyosaki: 169cm
Kotobuki: 158cm
Takagaki: 151cm
So yeah, Ayahime is just about 5 feet tall. Even I’m taller than her *facepalm*
Good Lord, you just had to mention DROPS, didn’t you. I thought I sandblasted them from my memory banks. Poor Ryoko Shiraishi… having to carry the weight of Ai Nonaka AND Tomoko Kaneda on her back.
I guess Sony is banking on Kotobuki to have some kinda Nana Mizuki-mojo. Either that or dress Haruka-chan in a bikini to distract the audience. Come to think of it, that would work for me! (baka ero-oyaji!)

Well, as it seems to be the general consensus, im not expecting much greatness from this (music wise), but im sure the pv will be kinda cute and interesting to check out at least.

Tomatsu’s eyes give me the Horie Yui piercing into the soul vibes, except Tomatsu looks like she’d also wants to kill you. Oh, Takagaki has that similar look in her eyes as well, or perhaps she’s just bitter that she’s the oldest, but the shortest.
Why does Tomatsu look slightly different in every picture of her?

Dude, i love them. people’s preference is different, we dont like the same thing, and we dont all hate the same thing either. with that said, i love them, i love their songs, their voice, u dont like it?
then dont listen. easy. U certainly not fit to judge any song competition if u cant be fair, i bet u the type who will say that Metal music is negative without even knowing what it is. and if in a singing contest, if u the judge, u will fail the contestant who not sing ur fav song.
