The Inaugural j1m0ne Seiyuu Awards 2008
Welcome, to the 2008 j1m0ne-sponsored, j1m0ne-selected Seiyuu Awards. We now welcome the President of the j1m0ne Media Company, Ms. j1m0ne to present the awards to the worthy winners!! All the winners go home with a special j1m0ne trophy that looks like this:

Isn’t that a marvelous-looking trophy?
Before we announce the nominees for the Best Newcomer awards, here’s an outline of the criteria. The seiyuu must have in the seiyuu world, ‘debuted’ within 2007 otherwise they’re not new! That means their first MAJOR role, that featured more than 3 spoken sentences in a row, must be in the year 2007. So it’s OK if they spent 2006 years voicing roles like Girl X, Passerby J and Salesgirl H! So for the females, here are the nominees.
Best Female Newcomer:
Toyosaki Aki - Amuro in Umisho
Tomatsu Haruka - Corticarte in Polyphonica
Ito Kanae - Amu in Shugo Chara!
Asumi Kana - Yuno in Hidamari Sketch
Takagaki Ayahi - Ruchia in Venus Versus Virus
And the winner is…..*drum roll*…. Asumi Kana! Oh, Yunocchi is soooooo cute, don’t you agree?
Moving on to the guys, here’s a truncated shortlist cos there aren’t enough ppl to make up the numbers!
Best Male Newcomer:
Yonaga Tsubasa - Ren in Ookiku Furikabutte
Azuma Masataka - Junki in Reideen
Ono Yuki - Joshua in Saint October
…and er, that’s it!!! And the winner is (by default), Yonaga Tsubasa!! Cos the other two suck.
Ahem. Next up are the best supporting roles! I will state now that shows still running in 2007 are also up for consideration. Why not? It’s not like ‘Oh, Heroes and Prison Break were on last year too. We can’t give them any awards?!?’ Onwards!
Best Supporting Female:
Ohara Sayaka - Hasegawa Haruka in Moyashimon
Nakahara Mai - Teana Lanster in Nanoha StrikerS
Inoue Marina - Yoko in Gurren Lagann
Endo Aya - Miyuki in Lucky Star
Ueda Kana - a barrel-load of stuff, but I’ll say Sakuya in Hayate no Gotoku!
Winner is…… Ohara Sayaka! Sorry, I wept over whether to nominate Ohara or Noto Mamiko’s smelly Aoi, but the leather won out in the end. Oh, and that Ohara totally owned the role; her sexiness, her tsundereness, her athlete’s feet, her drunken habits….. drooool.
And the guys! Enough to make a list this time.
Best Supporting Male:
Wakamoto Norio - Narrator in Hayate no Gotoku!
Konishi Katsuyuki - Kamina in Gurren Lagann
Koyasu Takehito - Keith Anyan in Terra e…
Touchi Hiroki - Hans in Emma 2
Nakamura Yuichi - Abe Takaya in Ookiku Furikabutte
And the award goes to….. Konishi Katsuyuki! How could it not?? What could possibly top Kamina, a real man’s manly man? Really, he brought so much life and soul to a character that a lot of other seiyuu would’ve made very irritating. Konishi-kun’s performance was what made Kamina truly memorable.
OK, enough praising. On to the main acting awards!
Best Lead Female:
Kawasumi Ayako - Noda Megumi in Nodame Cantabile
Kuwashima Houko - Clare in Claymore
Shiraishi Ryoko - Ayasaki Hayate in Hayate no Gotoku!
Orikasa Fumiko - Yasako in Denno Coil
Kugimiya Rie - Sanzenin Nagi in Hayate no Gotoku!
And the award goes to… (opens envelope)… Kuwashima Houko! You didn’t doubt that that would happen did you? I was one of the few people who didn’t actually like Claymore, but it was hard to deny that Kuwashima was top class as Clare. Maybe not as memorable or outstanding as previous roles such as Blue Gender’s Marlene or Nadesico’s Yurika, but still a great piece of voice work.
Moving on.
Best Lead Male:
Sugita Tomokazu - Gintoki in Gintama
Kiuchi Hidenobu - Hei in Darker than BLACK
Kamiya Hiroshi - Itoshiki Nozomu in Sayonara Zetsubo-sensei
Seki Tomokazu - Chiaki Shinichi in Nodame Cantabile
Kakihara Tetsuya - Simon in Gurren Lagann
The winner is….. Kamiya Hiroshi! Cos Zetsubo-sensei is my hero. And cos Kamiya is fantastic, of course. Better than he is as Tieria Erde anyway…….
Ahem! Let’s move on. Remember folks, that Mizuki Nana won the 1st Rigged Seiyuu Awards’ Best Singer for JUSTICE TO BELIEVE last year! The song was from a video game & not an anime so I’ll follow that criteria too.
Best Singer (seiyuu):
Miyano Mamoru - Kuon
Chihara Minori - Junpaku Sanctuary
Mizuki Nana- SECRET AMBITION
Sakakibara Yui - I will…!
Iida Toshinobu & Kondo Takashi - Sakura Addiction
And the winner is….. Chihara Minori! Cos she really stood out as the one who made significant inroads into the seiyuu idol arena!
For Best personality, I’m including duos (& trios) cos it makes no sense to award one person without awarding their equally deserving partner(s)-in-crime! Yes, I’m talking about you, Asano Masumi! How could you win without Washizaki Takeshi getting anything???
Best Personality:
Horie Yui - Tentama
Kamiya Hiroshi + Shintani Ryoko - Sayonara Zetsubo Hoso
Kitamura Eri + Asumi Kana - Busou Shinki RADIO RONDO
Tamura Yukari - Itazura Kuro Usagi
Noto Mamiko + Kawasumi Ayako - Marunavi!
And the winner is…. Tamura Yukari! Cos she comes up with the craaaziieest lines, she’s mad, she’s really entertaining, she needs to get her head checked! I love to hear her talking to herself ^_^ Kitamura Eri runs close though, she’s a Yukarin in the making!
I actually believe that my winners are more deserving those that won at the 2nd Seiyu Awards. And with that, I close the chapter on this year’s Seiyu Awards. Mata rainen!

Haha, the best way to take out the dissatisfaction at a rigged award is to rig one yourself? Awesome
Seriously though your picks are much more agreeable than the ‘real’ award winners were, especially with Asumi Kana and Yonaga Tsubasa (oh wait, he won anyways) since they both played the cutest roles of the year LOL

Personally I would nominate Heart-Shaped Chant rather than Secret Ambition and I would say HSC ran circles around Minorin’s Junpaku Sanctuary (even though they are both my top favourties), but that’s just me. :p
March 10th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Can we think of these as the real official results?
March 10th, 2008 at 1:31 am
KAMINAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! and yes saaya, yes tsubasa-kun, yes kuwashima-san! yes kamiyan >.< whatever to the rest!!
i’ll just live in your (seiyuu) world now, and never leave.
March 10th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Haha, I think this is a more fair nomination and awarding. It’s more like last year’s
Personally, I’d have chosen Secret Ambition for song because I believe it’s one of Mizuki Nana’s best to date, but I can’t deny that Junpaku Sanctuary is full of win.

Posting in an epic blog entry. Lulz and manly tears were shed (even if I’m not a man..)
Minorin~! \o/
I couldn’t agree more with your selection. Nana’s HSC was only in a FF ripoff game anyway.

Good on you, only different one on my list is Rie Kugimiya as best female.
Would you believe for how much I love her work that I didn’t even know who she was until late 2006 and then she came out of nowhere to pretty much become my favourite female VA along with longstanding all-star Romi Paku (This has nothing to do with Full Metal Alchemist believ it or not, Paku was a favourite of mine ever since Turn A Gundam in ‘99, but the fact that my two favourite female VA’s played brothers is icing on the cake for the show). She only continued to grow on me throughout 2007 and hit a peak sometime around when I started watching Gintama and Hayate No Gotoku. I’ve yet to see a show where I didn’t feel she give it her all as the lead female so the attached series could be almost anything.

Shining Wind is a cheap game, but it is nowhere near being a FF ripoff. Everything from story to game mechanics is entirely different.
Besides, what does HSC being an opening song to a crappy game got anything to do with its musical merits? You have to be careful here, otherwise you’re just using the same sets of criteria as these guys at the Seiyuu Award for giving Motteke Sailor Fuku as the best singing performance just because it was the most popular show last year, which you’ve just rolled your own eyes at.

Beats the actual results by a thousand fold.
March 10th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
I admit I totally forgot about Heart-Shaped Chant. It doesn’t change the outcome, cos I still marginally prefer Junpaku Sanctuary over everything else - it helps that Minorin songs, particularly JS, make great ringtones. I’ve been using it for some 6 months & I’ve not tired of it yet so….
Why am I talking about that anyway? ^^;; Thanks for the comments guys, I only did this post as a joke cos I was pee’d off about the Seiyu Awards but I’m glad to see that others share my views about the truly worthy winners.

That award design is totally one of the greatest ones that I’ve ever seen.
And I like the choices, especially Konishi Katsuyuki. He hasn’t gotten his due yet, and I’m hearing him everywhere now, from Bamboo Blade to Rental Magica to Macross Frontier.
March 11th, 2008 at 12:53 am
I have to agree with houkoholic over Mizuki Nana and Heart-Shaped Chant. Nana-chan deserved an award if only for that song.
March 11th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Kuwashima Houko could have gotten it for her role as Isako too (Dennou Coil FTW):D Or Miya-Miya…. but i think Miya-Miya is just amusing, and not really as awesome as Clare….
March 11th, 2008 at 6:13 am
Bah, where’s Inoue Marina? I’m going to pretend I never saw this post… T_T
Just kidding.
Even if she didn’t manage to win an on your version of the seiyuu awards, your nominees, criteria, and winners seem a lot more fair and less WTF-ish than the other awards. I wouldn’t have minded seeing Katou Emiri and her Kagamin make it onto the list of nominations though.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Really wished this was the real results lol, especially the part about nana-chan
March 12th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I never thought I’ll be leaving happy from seeing the results of this years’ Seiyu Awards (is so in denial of the WTF-ish official ones)
March 12th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
much happier with this award (except that Nana-chan didn’t win! T_T and would prefer Marina’s Yoko)
official seiyuu award 2008 does not exist! xD
