Tomatsu Haruka’s Debut Single naissance

My limited edition copy of naissance has finally arrived, so here’s a brief tour through the contents of the CD and DVD.

Ah yes, I packed in Minorin’s single and Kato Izumi’s covers album favorite with my order – I feel happier when I get 3 or 4 CDs at one go instead of just one single. CDJapan is my current online merchant of choice, and will remain so for the forseeable future.

The packaging’s not bad – eschewing the boring old jewel case format and going for a three-panel digipack instead. Dunno how it is for the regular edition though. Booklet is fairly boring, just the standard lyrics and very few pictures of Haruka (or her legs).

The Music
The important part, surely? Anyway, we all know what naissance sounds like by now (hear on Youtube if you haven’t) – bright, breezy and poppy. I’m fairly neutral on the song, I don’t hate it but I don’t particularly love it either. Puzzle is chill-out, coffee table lounge music and serves up the best of Tomatsu’s limited vocal range. I am a sucker for this kind of song so I took to it immediately. I’d been struggling for a while to think of which artist Puzzle reminded me off, but the Random button on my Foobar saved the day – it was (the now defunct) canappeco. Erm, never mind. I’m one of less than 50 people on the planet who listens to them anyway… And finally, REWIND – which is totally not my cup of tea. It sounds like ROUND TABLE or marble, neither of whom I particularly like, albeit with off-key and lifeless vocals.
DVD
The DVD had the naissance PV and its two TV CMs. I had hoped that those specials that streamed on her site would be included, but no cigar.
naissance has a ‘making of PV’ PV. Not terribly original or exciting, and I don’t really like how round Tomatsu looks here but I do like the feel & colours of the PV. Although there was too much mist/fog most of the time.
naissance charted within the Daily Oricon Top 50 for the first time today (at No.50), which is somewhat surprising as Haruka’s not that well known. Guess Sony’s big push and the Koko wa Greenwood tie-up may have helped a little. Her next single should do a bit better – released on 29th October, motto Hade ni ne! (motto☆派手にね! ) is also the Kannagi opening theme.
Overall, I’ll say that naissance was a mildly pleasant experience but I would only recommend this to hardcore fans or people with money to burn.
PS I thought I’d throw this in – Tomacchan’s been cast in yet another autumn anime; the CLAMP designed Moryo no Hako as Yuzuki Kanako. Don’t know much about the series, so goodness knows how big her role will be amongst the army of seiyuu that have been cast.

%$#@&*#?!! I have yet to get my claws on teh album!!! I went around several music stores but was denied of its existence!! T-T I’ll check out CDJapan(never heard it b4 though), thanks for the mention! I hope that some other fans would be hardcore enough to sub the PVs(and lyrics) and upload it somewhere… x(( (My jap aint good)
Once again, thanks lots for another post(with pics) featuring Tomatsu Haruka..!! xDD
I’m going to have this unexplainable yellow (bearded) spot lurking in everything I see for the rest of the day now…
Too bad I got no money to burn like you do…^^; Totally agree on how she look in that PV. Can’t they just make her look like her at her blog photo instead? I like that look the best. Are the streams at her site you mentioned those monthly journal record dealies? I only recall it being available at the comiket. As the trip getting closer I get more confused how to attend the events because obviously there are more now and most of them are on the weekends. Stupid airline still won’t release the seats so I’m still not sure would be going there a day earlier(Oct. 25th) or the next day.
Might consider going to Hirano’s live now since they added another one at Yokohama(26th) where is way closr to Tokyo than Nagoya and cheaper to go.^^;(was a day too late for the Shinjuku one.) So guess I have to go to Yukari-chan Matsuri on the first night. Mikako no Payo Payo is on the same night so can’t go now…The guest is Terajima Takuma. Should I waste money to get Nogizaka DVD just to shake hand with Mamimami and see her in person earlier that day…>_<
Later on only Anime Center radio on the weekday which is more luck involved. Then it’s back to the weekend with Gakuensai. Looks like I might be able to see Tanaka Rie at Meiji University on Nov. 1st and maybe even Asano Masumi, Saitou Momoko&Honda Youko the next day if I can find some way to get the passes and manage to make my flight at 7:50pm.^^; Do you guys have any advice or sugguestion for me especialy on how to get the guakuensai passes?^^ TIA
Lol I don’t have money to burn, I just save as much cash as I can by skimping on lunch.
Go buy the DVD and shake hands with Mamiko, that seems like the most appealing out of all the events, heh.
I obviously have no idea how to get to any event in Japan, never having attended a single one myself ^^ Sorry I can’t be of any help there.
[...] Very much looking forward to the rest of Tomatsu’s three consecutive month release plan now after hearing the short versions of the songs. motto☆Hade ni ne is basically Bouken Desho Desho Pt. II albeit with a catchier chorus. I’m looking forward to the PV, where she seems to look consistently cute rather than consistently like Moonface as in the naissance PV. [...]
[...] 3-month consecutive single release campaign. The situation’s sort of different to when I bought naissance, now everyone’s taking a lot more notice of her thanks to Kannagi, so sales for motto☆hade [...]
