Toshokan Senso Radio - Kanto Toshokichi Kohoka

関東図書基地 広報課 (Kantō Toshokichi Kōhōka), the radio show for Toshokan Senso officially started on the 10th of April, following the confusing format of - Girls one week, followed by the boys, then the girls and so on. I initially thought that the two shows were going to run simultaneously, but I was wrong. I also thought that I was going to enjoy the girls’ show more than the boys’ (because of the seiyuu), but I was also wrong. The guys’ show turned out to be an absolute riot, and Sawashiro Miyuki needs to talk louder or else I’ll be falling asleep :/

Girls’ side

The two girls were complaining how hard the show’s title was to read - all kanji >_> I loooved it when Marina teased Miyukichi about being cute and the latter meekly protested やめてください。(please stop)

They were talking about how far into the series of books they’d each read (four in total) - Sawashiro Miyuki has read to the end of Novel 1. Suzuki Tatsuhisa has finished reading everything. Inoue Marina is a slow reader, or is just too busy to read since I remember her saying on Anispa a few months ago that she had read a bit of it, but is still stuck somewhere in Novel 1.

A word guessing game - either seiyuu takes turns to describe a word or phrase given at random by the staff members, and the other one has to guess it; and then vice versa. The girls are not facing off against each other, but rather they’re going to take their total and fight against the boys. Whichever side ends up with more wins at the end of the radio shows’ runs will get a nice present it seems ;)

Marina described first, and Miyuki was to guess. Most of the words she got were really easy, stuff like dog, dolphin and truck. They even cheated on one, when Marina couldn’t think of how to describe a 桃 (momo) and ended up saying ‘White…peach!’, and somehow Miyuki still came up with the correct answer. So they got 8 correct on the first turn.

Sawashiro’s turn. Now she strikes me as someone who doesn’t tell things to you directly. For example, if she wanted to tell you the school headmaster was having an affair with your wife, she’d probably put it this way - “I heard Mr.Smith is showering expensive gifts upon, and having extended tea breaks, sometimes followed by lavish dinners, with a woman who somewhat resembles his gardener’s sister’s hairdresser’s maid’s cousin’s employer, who is married to someone who looks remarkably like you”. And so when her turn came, it was amusing to hear the way she described some of the words:

something to relieve stress, which you do in a group (answer: karaoke)
the people who have closest blood relation to you (answer: family)

Come to think of it, it was really elegant (and slow) the way Sawashiro described her words, unlike Marina who barked like a dog and crowed like a rooster >_> The girls got 7 correct in the second round, bringing their total up to 15. Beat that, boys!

Boys’ side

Hosts: Maeno Tomoaki (Dojo Atsushi) & Suzuki Tatsuhisa (Tezuka Hikaru)
The boys’ radio show was way more entertaining - Maeno & Tatsu provided great banter (they were arguing half the time ^^;) Turns out they get on well because they used to be in the same class in seiyuu training school. They were both complaining about having to do an all-guys radio show though - Maeno was annoyed that he got paired up with Tatsu when he had been hoping to get Marina instead.

In their intros, the boys took turns to describe their female co-stars and the contrast between their descriptions of Inoue Marina and Sawashiro Miyuki was hilarious. They sounded like two sex-crazed fiends desperate to attract Marina’s attention by giving her all sorts of compliments, whilst poor Miyukichi got all the subtle insults and sly digs.

Of course I’m taking a bit of liberty with my translations, but the gist of it is there.

Maeno-kun:
Inoue Marina - So level-headed* it’s unbelievable! She has the No.1 sexiest nape (of the neck) in the seiyuu world!
Sawashiro Miyuki - Eventhough she’s younger than me, she gives me that “I’ll live 20 years longer than you” sort of level-headedness!
*しっかり (shikkari) can mean a lot of things, but in this case it’s something like reliable, mature etc

Tatsu:
Inoue Marina-嬢 - Beautiful legs! Mou…everytime, her pants (he literally says パンツ here) …I mean her jeans…her tight-fit skinny jeans…it just attracts attention!
Sawashiro Miyuki-嬢 - She’s a lovely person. Well, you could say she’s like our mascot character. And she bullied me when I gave her back her DVD slightly damaged… (I dunno if I heard the last bit correctly *_*)

Later on in the show, the pair reflected on their unflattering comments and compared it to sexual harassment (on Marina’s part anyway). Tatsu was also keen to reveal something Maeno said at a Toshokan Senso get together despite his protests, but alas it ended up getting censored. It went something like ‘Maeno ____ (Marina’s) nape’. Maeno-kun then said that if he did ____ Marina’s nape, those actions would be comparable to a hentai. So uh, fill in the blanks yourself? (lick, chew, kiss, bite - take your pick)

In one of the corners, the seiyuu have to do a little intro to the Toshokan Senso world, reading a bunch of lines similar to those at the start of each anime episode. So when Maeno started the narration in a serious tone, Tatsu stopped him by saying “That’s too ordinary” and implored him to redo it Hokuto/Chiba Shigeru style. Which he obliged, and it was pretty hilarious ^^;

The boys were really up for this, the competitive gits. Hilariously, the staff passed them a message saying that the girls had called them ‘hopeless and unable to work together’ in the first episode (they didn’t, actually) and that riled the duo up. So off they went, with Tatsu describing and Maeno guessing first. They got words like kiss, love letter and marathon and ended up getting 10 correct! So far so good, well on course to beat the girls handily.

It’s Maeno’s turn to describe with Tatsu guessing. Things get off to a good start with karaoke, but they hit a brick wall with the second one. Maeno made all sorts of gestures, like he was swinging a baseball bat but stupid Tatsu couldn’t comprehend and kept saying バッティング練習 (batting practice) when the word was 素振り (practice swinging). In the end they wasted all their time and ended up with only 2 more correct, bringing the total to 12 which meant the girls won this time round.

There was also some… less than appropriate talk about books - apparently in middle school, Suzuki Tatsuhisa spent his time fapping over pictures of women’s bodies in medical textbooks XD

Anyway, here’s something amusing I found when I was writing up part of this post in my office. I can’t type Japanese on my PC there so I went off to Jim Breen’s online dic to copy and paste the パンツ word, and while I was there I decided to look at the example sentences provided to illustrate the use of the word “pants” (it means underwear in Japanese, for the uninitiated):

WTF? Someone must’ve been smoking some serious shit when thinking up those sentences. I think my colleagues must’ve been wondering what was up with this weirdo laughing aloud to herself at 9am in the morning…

Ah, thanks for this summary! One question, why did Marina apologize for her rudeness at the end? Was it because of how she addressed Miyukichi, sometimes dropping the honorific, or because of something completely different?

I’m guessing it’s because she called her cute, and maybe cos of the ‘Saisho wa toshokan’ janken bit? I wasn’t really paying attention towards the end anymore >_>

Oh right, I had forgotten about the janken thing. But anyway, I loved the teasing bit too ^^

EH EH jimone, I am humbly begging you to do a seiyuu profile on Sawashiro Miyuki. She’s like my all-time favourite seiyuu ever since I was a tiny toddler watching Galaxy Angels.

Sawashiro Miyuki was given some nice love over on Hashihime, but more words about Miyuki are always welcome, wherever they appear. j1m0ne’s profiles are often hilarious too, so yeah -

    definitely thirded!

Woah, Miyukichi lovefest ^^; I won’t rule out the prospect, but it’d probably take some time (ネタが足りない).
