TWIJ…#22

06 June 2007
I was a bit miffed at missing the 2nd half of the Henin-Serena match cos I had to go take an exam. Damn you Kuznetsova/Ivanonic! But anyway, exams over; time to catch up on all that anime I’ve put off for the last 3 1/2 weeks…. Just as well it’s a pretty dead week music-wise. Unless you’re a Johnny’s fan. Mizuki Nana’s live DVD debuted at No.3 today (after Kanon DVD6 & Pirates of the Caribbean 2), I wish I could get hold of it - I’d probably have to sell a kidney for it though, it’s friggin ¥7700! ^^;

Singles
Itoshii hito e. Tainaka Sachi

The Seirei no Moribito ending theme. It’s not a bad song, except that it sounds a bit like Aitai yo. Actually, Itoshii hito e sounds nowhere near as good as Aitai yo. I don’t like the c/w song either, which I think is a first for a Tainaka single.

Suirenka. Shonannokaze

Despite their similarity to a lot of my fave reggae-rap hybrids (Ketsumeishi, Asia Engineer, Def Tech etc), Shonannokaze have never appealed to me. Not quite sure why. I don’t like Suirenka either…. I prefer listening to the instrumental version without their annoying rapping. And it’s 7 minutes long >_> 7 minutes of torture.

Surfer King. Fujifabric

Fujifabric are a strange kettle of fish; experimental brilliance at one turn and infuriating tepidness at the next. Their self-titled album is a perfect example of this, lurching from the excellent (TAIFU) to hideous (TOKYO MIDNIGHT). Thankfully neither of the two songs here are as dull as the last single Aoi Tori - in fact I enjoyed them both quite a lot; Day Dripper is perhaps catchier and more mainstream than anything you’ll ever hear from them but it’s a nice foot-tapper. Let’s hope they can show some sign of consistency…..

Kimi ga kureta ano hi. Chihara Minori

Ho-hum. I think Kimi ga… is an inferior song to Junpaku Sanctuary but at least it’s debuted pretty high in the charts. I finally bought her first album HEROINE a few months ago and I really do like it - out of the Haruhi trio she’s definitely my fave singer, though she’s also my least favourite from a voice acting point of view ^^;; She (+ Hoshi Soichiro + various other stuff) was the main reason I stopped watching Tenjou Tenge, an abominable anime adaptation of a great manga that still makes me cross when I think about it now.

Tabibito. Takasugi Satomi

Oh Lord, not another gravure idol-turned-singer who probably can’t sing for nuts…. or so I thought. OK, so her live singing still needs a bit of work but the song itself (Saiyuki movie theme) is pretty good. I like the c/w ballad too - good debut this. The single’s cover makes her look kinda old though….

Koiuta. Onsoku Line

I was a little apprehensive about this, given how much I hated their last single Mahiru no Tsuki but I absolutely bloody love Koiuta. C/w songs are a bit on the boring side but whatever, I could listen to Koiuta on repeat the whole day long.

Te o tsunaidara. Fumido

I’m a Fumido fan. Must be one of the only ones around, cos not a lot of ppl buy their releases, lol. I can see why though - they’re a bit too blues for the mainstream pop crowd; and yet a little too cheesy for the indie crowd. Te o tsunaidara isn’t one of their best singles but it’s still catchy enough to hum along to.

Where’s BONNIE PINK’s WATER ME? I would’ve thought it’d be doing the rounds by now. Great song that…. looking for Hata Motohiro too.

Next week: Ishikawa Chiaki’s mega-fantastic Uninstall is out!!

Congratulations on successfully completing Level 5 on “This is Yer Life” You may now move on to Level 6 and attempt to attain a successful existence whilst collecting as many anime DVDs and Japanese CDs as you can in the time allocated. However, beware the perils of “Work” and “Da Boss” for they will attempt to curtail your joy. Enjoy indeed.

LOL. Know any jobs that pay maximum income for minimum effort (that don’t involve any shady dealings)? At least I have no plans to become attached so I can waste all my ‘hard-earned’ dosh on material goods - target No.1 is a Wii ^^;; Oh, and I’ll help out with the bills of course….. and pay for ‘my’ car.

Personally, I only like Minorin for her singing, she’s awfully good live. And I didn’t really like “Kimi ga…” until I saw the PV. Ever since Nagato, she gets violins in her songs…
