What Does ‘Guten Tag’ Mean?…. and Other Random Bits

I’m sure most ppl don’t need to be told what Guten Tag means. Unlike Kobayashi Yu, who fell for Goto Yuko’s big fat lie. She’d probably gotten tired of explaining everything to Yu-tan, who didn’t know what a manbaken (万馬券, a betting ticket that pays 100-fold) was, or what the term 生まれたてのヤギ (umaretate no yagi - a newborn goat; a listener used the term to describe an old lady he gave up his seat on the train to) meant.
So, in the futsuota corner Yuko to Yu no iu koto iu wa yo (ゆうことゆうのゆうことゆうわよ - try reading that quickly), they finally got round to choose the catchphrases for the show where they’d asked listeners to send in their suggestions. This bloke from Saitama suggested a modification of Guten Tag - Yuten Tag for their opening catchphrase. So Goto decides to be naughty and asks the not-too-smart Kobayashi if she knows what Guten Tag means. After a bit of mumbling, Yu admits she has no idea. The devil in Goto’s mind was probably playing around with several dozen weird explanations, and she settled for ‘Guten tag is a type of castella‘. Which the naive Kobayashi promptly fell for, amidst howls of laughter from the staff.
They decided on Anyu for the opening catchphrase and Mina-sama, Gokigenyu! for the ending.
So, erm yeah…. Kobayashi Yu seems to feature regularly in my blog nowadays. She’s one of the newer seiyuu that have caught my eye(ear), and I’m looking forward to her (eventual) appearances in Busou Renkin and Saint October, and of course more Secchan (Negima!?) and Sacchan (Gintama). I’m also a fan of Goto Yuko and it’s boring to hear her get cast in the same sort of high-pitched roles, I want to hear more of her deep voice…. (you can hear that over at her Baobab profile page). Speaking of voice samples, most of the time they’re just stuff cut out of anime roles or CMs the seiyuu have done and tend to be a little dull. I pinched Kobayashi’s off her profile page cos I found it absolutely hilarious. She screams too much though.
Also if you read the last post about the Negima 1000% Box, I included pics of the cast as they are in 2006/7. What a difference 3 years (and a li’l bit of fame) can do to a person’s appearance!
