Who I’d really nominate for the Seiyuu Awards…

if I hadn’t wasted my vote already :P I’d probably be able to get another one in using a different IP & email address but I’m not bothered since I really don’t think my vote makes a miniscule difference, thanks to their stupid disclaimer:

The results of the vote shall determine the first assessment. A second assessment shall be held by the Seiyu Awards Selection Committee.

As usual I am pessimistic that there will not be ‘convenient interference’ this time as well, and I’ll try to explain why I think who will win for whatever reason. I’m sure 95% of my picks will turn out wrong, I only got two correct last year xD

Let’s keep in mind that the last Seiyuu Awards made no mention of what role the seiyuu got the award for, and there was no short-nominee list like there was in the first one. However, I still make my choices based on roles - what else is there to consider for us poor, innocent souls?

Male lead
Who I’d like to win: Kishio Daisuke
Who I think will win: Nakamura Yuichi
-I think Nakamura is the obvious choice this time around for Macross F, he was already unfairly blanked last year for Oofuri. I’d rather Kishio’s Juslain (Tytania) or Negishi (Detroit Metal City) won, but the chances are close to nil.

Female lead
Who I’d like to win: Endo Aya or Kawasumi Ayako
Who I think will win: Endo Aya or.. somebody. Yukana?
-Plenty of calls for Koshimizu Ami’s Horo, but I’m not too sure about that (I disliked Spice & Wolf). In fact, I’m not sure about this one at all - there don’t seem to be many ‘feasible’ choices out there. I’d personally favour somebody like Kuwashima Houko, Kobayashi Sanae or Orikasa Fumiko but I don’t think it will happen. After Endo’s Sheryl Nome, Yukana may be the next best option…

Male supporting
Who I’d like to win: Inoue Kazuhiko, Konishi Katsuyuki
Who I think will win: Yoshino Hiroyuki, Mizushima Takahiro or Miki Shinichiro
-I really doubt they’ll give the same award twice in a row to Kamiya Hiroshi, and he doesn’t have a strong case for lead male this year (but then, neither did Kugimiya for supporting female last year). Yoshino and Miki might get in for Gundam and Mizushima might snatch it for Geass, but I do hope they consider either Inoue or Konishi - the latter really should’ve won on merit for Gurren Lagann this year but I guess his chances have improved with Macross. Inoue Kazuhiko as Nyanko-sensei is the most memorable performance for me in any category in 2008 - he’s a legend.

Female supporting
Who I’d like to win: Tanaka Rie, Toyoguchi Megumi
Who I think will win: Your guess is as good as mine. Sawashiro Miyuki? Hirano Aya (she hasn’t won this one yet)? Ito Shizuka? Inoue Kikuko?
-This was the most WTF outcome of last year, because it made no sense regarding the matching of seiyuu to award. I mean, Kugimiya Rie & Saiga Mitsuki are fine seiyuu, but I still cannot begin to explain how they won what they won. I am expecting this year’s to throw a few unexpected curveballs too so expect somebody like Nonaka Ai to win then :3

Best new male
Who I’d like to win: Maeno Tomoaki, Kaji Yuki
Who I think will win: Maeno Tomoaki, Aso Taro Okamoto Nobuhiko
-Maeno will win because of the AMG factor, and because there’s nobody else that fits the bill as perfectly as him. Okamoto is likely because there’s really not any other viable candidate - it’s too early for Abe Atsushi and Kaji Yuki too. If the committee give one to Irino Miyu (who debuted at the start of the century) I’m gonna send them stink bombs.

Best new female
Who I’d like to win: Tomatsu Haruka, Inoue Marina
Who I think will win: Ito Kanae, Nakajima Megumi or Fujita Saki (hah)
-Again, Ito will grab one because of her links with AMG. Tomatsu… hard to say. She’s still young and has more chances to win it in the future (I mean, Kobayashi Yu won last year *rolls eyes*) so somebody like Inoue Marina may not be so far-fetched. Neither would Fujita Saki, she ticks a lot of the correct boxes (dwango etc).

Best singer
Who I’d like to win: Mizuki Nana
Who I think will win: Nakajima Megumi
-If they don’t give the best newcomer award to Nakajima, they may stick the best singer on her. I think it’s more plausible anyway, since her future direction should be music-based and not voice acting-based, so a ‘Best singer’ gong would be ideal. Failing that, it should go to Sakamoto Maaya. Mizuki Nana would always be my first choice, since she so obviously is heads and shoulders the most recognisable, best-selling seiyuu idol around but maybe they don’t wanna give her another one.

Best personality
Who I’d like to win: Sakurai Takahiro
Who I think will win: Kamiya Hiroshi or Kakihara Tetsuya
-Best personality will always go to someone who’s presenting a radio show on JOQR, and there are plenty of choices. Sakurai is the most senior and most likely on paper, but he still has a scandal hanging around his neck so they’ll probably go for a safer choice like Kamiya, Kakihara Tetsuya or Ono Daisuke. I’d much prefer Tamura Yukari or Kitamura Eri, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Macross F seems like a very convenient choice for awards this time - it’s a fan favourite anime so maybe its corporate ties with Kadokawa will go a little less noticed. I am neutral about it in general - I never finished watching the show at any rate.

You can see how to vote for the awards on Hashihime’s post, or from the one I did last year (which has a bunch more seiyuu names in kanji).

Singer wise I actually think Sakamoto Maaya might have a chance to bag it this year. IIRC Trianglar sold more than the Ranka single so there’s a bit more backing to it with the numbers et all, but only if people still remember Maaya is a seiyuu, though I’m sure the panel of judges will remember. :3 But the power of キラッ is also possible here, though I would say the choice is definitely going to be these two.

While I don’t think Fujita Saki will get best new female (Nakajima Megumi does have a great chance here), but there’s that Synergy award right? The whole Hatsune Miku link can put her there instead I think, even though nobody really knows that Miku is (sort of) voiced by Fujita Saki, but if you throw Hatsune Miku out there people would probably accept it.

I think even though Tomatsu has a good role this year (Nagi) in the otakudom she won’t get it because her backers aren’t “right”.

Female support would go to Endo Aya for Sheryl, she won’t get lead IMO as she doesn’t have the full “pull”in the industry, plus with the 2 heroine in Frontier the possibility of backlash is small (unlike last year’s). Female lead would be someone else, I think Koshimisu Ami has a chance as there’s too many good “links” (S&W, Geass).

Nana Mizuki needs to win another award. She is just that good.

Haha so people still care about this award.. considering that “connections” are (obviously) more important than skill here, and the fact that the committee broke my heart in the latest award (LOL). I’ll decide on my votes soon, but won’t think too seriously about it..

    I was really hoping for Inoue Kazuhiko or Konishi Katsuyuki to win supporting male, too, but if Yoshino got it I would be happy anyway cause I think he’s really great in Chaos;HEad (more in the game than in the anime, but then again the anime sucks! And that’s a lead role too but not like he’s ever gonna get anything as male lead XD); he also delivered the best performance among the Gundam 00 main characters IMHO, I love Kamiya but his Tieria is nothing special really ^^;
As for best singer, I voted Sakamoto Maaya cause I think it’s unlikely for Nana to win again. I like Megumi’s voice but Maaya is still another planet for me D:

I would laugh my head off if Hirano Aya got best supporting female. Not that I hate Hirano or anything, but since there are so many good seiyuu out there, if she manage to make the awards 3 times in a row, it’d be really funny.

I can’t say I particularly care about the awards - I’m just one of them smart asses who sits around and laughs when the rigged results come out and scream ‘There! I told you so!’ :3

We’ve also got to remember that there’s postcards and DVDs to be sold for Seiyuu Awards! So we can’t have old, ugly people winning them lest consumers get turned off by the sight of Kawasumi Ayako’s face staring at them from the shelf…

Seriously, Koshimizu Ami would be an ideal winner but I didn’t think she had a strong case for Kallen - she already won Supporting Female for that before, and it wasn’t a leading role but… as Kugimiya Rie showed last year, roles don’t matter. It’s the name/face/connection!

I think it’d be really funny if Hirano won again too - let’s be honest, she really hasn’t done anything of note this year. Best Personality is more likely than best supporting, but that’d be a stretch. Her radio show’s dull as hell, even Asumi Kana would be a better choice in that case.

Am I the only one who absolutely HATED Macross Frontier? Besides the good songs (and I didn’t even liked all of them, just Triangular and Lion…ranka’s songs are cute but that’s it), it had a weak lead, bad script, so-so animation (if we don’t count the early episodeS) and a ridiculously stupid ending with no resolution whatsoever in the ONLY thing that mattered: the love triangle (after all, the “real story” was almost inexistant).

But yeah I know that the fans liked it and it was a success so meh

    Speaking of Taro Aso:

Taro Aso would despise George W. Bush.

    Bush is a raging racist.

Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

    Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

    Bush is a psychological prisoner.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

(I can type 90 words per minute. In only 7 days, posts basically like this post of mine have come into existence—all over the Internet (hundreds of copies). One can go to Google right now, type “George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism,” hit “Enter,” and find more than 550 copies indicating the content of this post. All in all, there are probably more than 2,000 copies on the Internet indicating the content of this post—it has, in a way, become headline news. One cannot be too dedicated when it comes to anti-Bush activities. As I looked back at my good computer work, I thought how fun and easy it was to do it.)
